Golf May Get You Moving

By Tom Herrin

If plain ordinary exercise is not your thing, you are not alone.  For some, the routine of traditional exercise programs is something they can hold on to.  Especially if they can see progress, it may be something they can count on and use as a measure as they increase their workout.  For others, this just doesn't hold their interest.  They may want more excitement, or variety, in order to maintain their focus.  There is no need to despair as there are all kinds of activities available to help meet that need.  Some of these may be things you did years ago, and some may be new activities that can be of higher interest.

Are You a Golfer?

Some love golf, and some wonder what the attraction is.  Golf can be a pretty social game.  It can also be pretty frustrating.  If you enjoy it, or would like to begin playing, it can be a good way to turn your attention to getting out and trying to improve your game.  Particularly if you walk the course, you can get in some good distance.  It makes is easy if you play with a group of people who also walk it.  Many people play several times per week.  I had one friend who played every day after he retired.

Dancing Can Accomplish More Than One Thing

If you have never really been into dancing, you have missed a lot.  There are all kinds of classes available for those who are interested.  Square dancing can be a blast, and there are more groups than you might realize who have regular square dances.  For them, it is a social activity that provides a good workout, too.  Of course, there are other kinds of dance classes, and dancing is something you can practice at home.  My wife and I often dance to a few songs at home.  It is a good way to spend time together while getting good exercise.  You probably wouldn't think of dancing as something to build endurance, but it can be a good tool toward that end.

Try Kayaking for Real Adventure

If you think you are up to some higher level activity, a lot of people seem to enjoy kayaking.  You will have to learn some skills such as rolling the kayak and paddling correctly.  It will serve as a pretty good exercise for using your entire body.  Once you start this activity, you may find yourself looking for new places to put your kayak into the water, and if you are just wanting to give it a try, there are lots of places that offer rentals.
