How to Keep Your Body Young
By Sara Butler
It’s pretty much universally understood at this point that in order to stay healthy as you age, you have to keep your body and mind active and eat right. But there are a few other things you can do to ensure you are at your very best as you get older. Here are some things you can try to harness the power of the Fountain of Youth no matter how many candles are on that birthday cake!
Chiropractic
Of course, regular chiropractic care helps your body to work optimally, regardless of age. If you don’t already get regular chiropractic care, then you should come into The Joint Chiropractic today and get started. The chiropractors at The Joint can help to keep your balanced and nip potential problems in the bud so they don’t cause you trouble down the road.
Keep Your Brain Dynamic
You know it’s important to exercise your body, but it’s just as important to exercise your mind, especially as you get older. You can play online brain games, pull out of Sudoku, or even join a euchre club. Whatever you choose, just make sure it’s something you enjoy that challenges your mind and keeps those synapses firing!
Get a Hobby
It’s important as you get older to find something you’re passionate about and do it -- it’ll make you feel younger! It doesn’t have to be anything extreme, such as suddenly taking up skydiving (unless you’re into that kind of thing), but it should be something you enjoy that makes you feel good, such as volunteering at your local hospital or animal shelter.
Refine Your Diet
If you can cut down on sugar and add more fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet, then you’ll feel better. The empty calories in sugar only leave less space for nutrient-dense foods, so try to cut out foods with a lot of added sugars. Consider adding green tea to your diet, too, since it helps to keep your brain working optimally.
You may want to consider eating more fat, too. No, that doesn’t mean you should go out and eat all the saturated fat you can get your hands on! What it does mean is you should add more foods with omega-3 fatty acids to your diet to help keep your bones strong and reduce the impact of aging on your body.
You can stay young -- by caring for yourself the right way!
