Finding Fun Ways to Get Fit
By Brandi Goodman
Fitness goals should be on everyone's to-do list, but many put it off because of how difficult they feel meeting these goals is. Finding fun ways to get fit makes that to-do list easier to accomplish. You're more likely to continue working out because you're trying new and enjoyable activities that don't actually feel like you're exercising.
Be a Kid
If you think back to your childhood, you might remember jumping rope outside with your friends, swinging at the playground, playing hopscotch, riding your bike, and playing catch. Be a kid again and try these activities. You'll be reminiscing about the good times from when you were a child all while getting in a good workout. These activities each allow you to burn lots of calories and act as great fitness opportunities.
Dance
Dancing burns lots of calories and can work out your body in many ways. Choose your favorite form of dancing or even try something new from time to time; you'll have an assortment of workouts that can target different areas, particularly your legs. Dance at home to some music or take a dance class for a unique fitness option.
Take an Active Vacation
A vacation getaway can be just what you need to spice up your fitness routine. Rather than laying around a hotel for the duration, plan an active vacation that has you exploring your surroundings. Hike a mountain, trek a trail, head to a ski resort. Pick something that will have you really moving your body. It will be fun and rewarding
Volunteer
Many volunteer opportunities exist that will have you working out your body and staying active for the duration. Get fit by volunteering and you're sure to boost your mood and mental health as well. It feels good to help others and equally satisfactory to help yourself. Plant trees, pick up trash around a park, build houses in a Habitat for Humanity program, or choose something else that is labor intensive.
Getting fit is part of being healthy. Your body needs regular exercise in order to maintain weight, burn calories, receive oxygen and nutrients to all the tissues, joints, and other important parts and keep the heart and lung strong. Find fun ways to get fit so you're more likely to stay on track and continue getting the exercise your body so desperately needs.
