Clean Your Way to Better Health
By Brandi Goodman
Leaving filth all around you is a surefire way to get yourself sick. All of the dust and debris that collects can quickly interfere with your respiratory system and start to cause certain symptoms. You'll soon find yourself coughing, itching your eyes, having a runny nose, and worse. Clean your way to better health and keep your well-being intact.
Wipe Down Your Light Switches
Most members of your family are probably turning light switches on and off in your home often. Every time the switch gets touched, the germs on your hands spread. The germs that were on the light switch already are now on you. This is a quick way to get sick. Make sure you're wiping down your light switches often and keeping them germ-free.
Wash Your Pillows
You may keep up with washing your bedding like you should. That doesn't mean there aren't still germs in your bed. Many people think tossing the pillowcase in the wash is good enough. The truth is, you need to be washing the actual pillows you sleep on as well. They harbor sweat and skin cells and need to be cleaned at least every few months. You can toss some tennis balls in the dryer to prevent the interior material from clumping if that's what you're worried about.
Maintain Your Air Conditioner
Whether you have an outside unit or one that fits in your window, your air conditioner needs to be properly maintained. Allowing debris to sit inside it only means you'll be breathing all that in as the air blows through your home. Turn off the power and unplug the unit before taking everything completely apart. Be ready to wipe out the sludge, blow out some leaves, and dust down the entire thing.
Organize for Your Mental Health
Your physical health isn't all that matters. Keeping your home organized is actually beneficial for your mental health as well. You can have a clean home overall yet still feel overwhelmed by clutter. Make sure to take a day each week to get things organized. Break down empty boxes. Tackle that pile of laundry. Clear clutter from the hallways and stairs. Do what you can to get all the little things that start to add up out of the way. You'll feel less stressed and improve your mental health.
Cleaning your way to better health is possible. Make sure you're always wiping things down, giving them a good cleaning when it's necessary, and staying organized so you can be dust-, allergen-, and clutter-free. It's good for your physical and mental well-being.
