Motivation and Health May Be Had for a Smile

By Tom Herrin

Most of us pay attention whenever we hear or read about something that can improve our overall health.  We all know that we need more rest, better diet, and exercise to be at our best.  It is not a really magic formula but pays off big.  Another thing that we can do is smile more.  That isn’t just for the sake of doing it, smiling can have a solid effect on health as well as other factors that influence us and our social climate.  It may affect everything from our appearance to productivity to our social environment in general.

It Can Increase Productivity

When people smile, and are happy, they may find it much easier to lose themselves in their work.  The don’t seem to have the dread for the task that so many have.  A positive outlook toward their daily routine can help to lift others who share the same workspace as well.  Those who smile may be more creative.  This could be due to the fact that they are more open to ideas and can do a better job of problem solving.  It has also been said that those who are happy and smile are more likely to be considered for advancements in their job. Promotion, anyone?

It Can Make Them Healthier

Smiling can help to lower the heart rate and reduce stress.  Both of these are common problems for many.  It can help the body to relax and be better able to respond to outside factors that can cause illness.  This improves your body's level of immunity.  It can also help to release endorphins that can dull pain.  One study indicated that people who smile more may increase their longevity as much as seven years.

It Can Make You Seem More Approachable And Attractive

There tends to be a greater level of trust for those who smile.  Others are simply more comfortable with them.  Men are more likely to approach women who smile than they are those who make just make eye contact.  Their good moods may be able to lift the spirits of others.  It has also been said that those who smile may appear as much as three years younger.  Smiling may really pay off in motivation and acceptance.  It could open new doors for you.  Try it, and you will probably wonder why you never smiled as much before.
