How to Kick-Start Healthy Living Motivation
By Genevieve Cunningham
One of the hardest parts about healthy living is staying motivated. We often start new habits with big motivation and great intentions. But after a week or two, the motivation begins to wane. And when that happens, it's so hard to get started again. So what can we do? If you're interested in really making healthy habits a part of your regular lifestyle, take a look at these tips to help your motivation stick around.
Get Buddies
Friends make everything easier. If you want to live a healthy lifestyle, you'll need friends who are interested in the same lifestyle. When your own personal motivation wanes, you'll have someone else who is at a motivational high point to get you moving again. You'll have others to hold you accountable, and you'll be able to do the same for them. As the saying goes, you're the sum of the five people you spend the most time with. So if you want to be healthy, you need healthy friends to keep you moving in the right direction.
Find a Big Goal
Some people need a big goal to help them move forward. This might be a dramatic weight loss before a big event, fitting into a particular outfit, or lowering your blood pressure or cholesterol. If you need external motivation, go find a big goal. Find something that you really want and need. Find something that you truly desire, and then use that as motivation to keep going.
Get Real With Yourself
It's important to be real with your abilities. If you need to lose 100 pounds, don't expect to do that in a month. It's not going to happen. Instead, understand the task that you're taking on. Get ready for a lifestyle change and not a quick and easy fix. If you're real with yourself about what you can do and how long it will take, it's easier to keep the motivation alive and the new lifestyle intact.
You can change your lifestyle. It's possible, and if you're trying to lose weight or get healthy, it's probably necessary. But in order to change your lifestyle for good, you need solid motivation! Use these tips to keep your motivation alive, and you'll be healthier than ever in no time at all.
