2018: The Year for a Healthier You
By Virginia Laird
Like many others, I hope to make 2018 a year of health improvement. When setting out on this journey, there is much to consider. How to become healthier? What changes should I make to begin my path? After consulting with a personal trainer as well as a dietitian, it was decided a few places to begin that are simple and productive can include:
- Try eating healthier
- Make a grocery list
- Take a spin class
Try Eating Healthier
Healthy eating is a sure way to begin the path of improving your health. Think for a minute about what you have eaten this week, or even what you may have in your pantry. Are there a few things which could fall in the category of unhealthy? Eating healthier begins by ridding your pantry of the unnecessary (and unhealthy) items you may have stowed away. A few things to make sure you are including in your diet to ensure you are eating healthier can include green vegetables, lean proteins, and some carbs.
Make a Grocery List
Making a grocery list is beneficial in selecting healthy foods to bring home. Without making a list, you are leaving it up to your eyes and stomach to decide what you choose to purchase. This can be detrimental to both your health and your hips. A grocery list begins with a meal plan. Although meal planning may not be how you want to spend your time, it can help you make healthier choices for the whole family.
Take a Spin Class
Making time to work out is a great way to improve your health. Spin class is all the rage across the nation. It is a low-impact, high-energy class. Fitness instructors suggest you can burn as much as 600 calories per spin class. If you are looking to find a spin class near you, be sure to check with your local gyms. Many of the classes will require you to arrive early to make sure you get a bike, as most gyms have limited space. Be sure to bring water, you will sweat like never before.
It is time to begin putting together your plan of success for your journey to a healthier you. Don’t let anything stand in your way. Now get out there and make your new year the healthiest one in the books!
