4 Healthy Tips to a Well-Balanced Diet

By Virginia Laird

It is no secret that many struggle to eat a well-balanced diet. With a fast-paced life, it can be difficult to find the time to prepare meals as they should be, and instead opting for the convenience of fast food. Rather than depriving yourself and your family the benefits of a well-balanced diet, health and wellness experts have offered a few tips to help keep it healthy while living life on-the-go. Some of these tips include:

  • Increase your green veggie consumption
  • Make sure you are eating enough protein
  • Watch your carb intake
  • Invest in a crockpot

Increase Your Green Veggie Consumption

Green veggies may not be popular in your home with your children or even your spouse. However, they are the best when trying to make sure you get enough minerals and vitamins. If your family struggles to eat green veggies, consider disguising them in a recipe. There are also some great kid cookbooks available which help parents disguise vegetables so that children will eat their veggies.

Make Sure You are Eating Enough Protein

All too often we fall guilty of consuming too many carbs and sugar. While these are super tasty, they are not what is actually best for the body. Protein feeds the muscles of the body as well as the brain. Protein is also what the body burns off first, which can help increase the ability to not store fats. Carbohydrates, on the other hand, are what the body stores. While there is a place for carbs in your diet, you must be careful not to consume the wrong carbs or too many carbs.

Watch Your Carb Intake

Like many others, carbs are my favorite to consume. While many teach that carbs are the enemy, health and wellness experts advise this is not entirely true. There are a wide variety of healthy carbohydrates which provide many benefits. Although loading up on breads and pastas can prove to be detrimental to the waist, oatmeal is a carb which is great for the heart. Bottom line: Choose your carbs carefully and do not overindulge.

Invest in a Crockpot

While you may find yourself living life in the fast lane, this does not mean you need to take the drive-thru as well. A crockpot can be a busy family’s best friend. With hundreds of cookbooks available with crockpot recipes, it can be easy to provide your home with healthy, well-balanced meals without the need to spend hours preparing them.

With these ideas in hand, you are now ready to jump into action and help your family make eating healthy a top priority.
