Flu Season is Not Fun: Try These Tips
By Virginia Laird
Falling ill with the flu is nothing to grin about. There is no fun in being sick. While there is little you can do to completely avoid illness, there are things you can do to deter these germs from entering your home. A few tips to help keep your family well this flu season include:
- Go to bed when you are tired
- Stay home when you don't feel well
- Drink plenty of water
Go to Bed When You Are Tired
One of the many things you can do to help fight off illness throughout flu season is to get plenty of sleep. This happens by going to bed when you are tired. Experts say that, all too often, there are those who try to burn the candle at both ends and squeeze as much into one day as possible. While this may sound like an excellent idea, it can hamper your health to get a lack of sleep. Instead of trying to stay up and cram as much into one day as possible, it is best that you go to bed and get plenty of sleep. There is research to suggest that the average adult should get at least six hours of sleep each night. There are plenty who require much more than this. Make sure you are getting the sleep you need starting right away.
Stay Home When You Don't Feel Well
Although you may think you are doing your boss a favor by going into work when you don't feel well, it is actually counterproductive for you to do so. Not only does research suggest that you will be less productive while at work, but you are also exposing your coworkers to your sick germs. When you are sick you are also susceptible to catching more germs that can make you more ill. Rather than trying to tackle the world while you are run down it is best that you stay home, rest, and get a little extra sleep so that your body can be successful in fighting off illness and infection.
Drink Plenty of Water
A recent study indicates that most prefer drinking soda, juice, and tea over (the very best you can) water. While these other beverages may offer the sweet sensation your taste buds desire, they are not best for your hydration. It is advised that consuming at least half of your body weight in ounces of water each day is the best way to promote overall wellness, as well as a properly functioning body. Start today making sure you are choosing water rather than these other beverages more often to help improve your health and fight off illness this flu season.
