Why Spring Is a Good Time for a Tech Detox
By Genevieve Cunningham
How much do you really love technology? If you're like most people, technology is one of your most favorite things. We love the convenience, the entertainment, and the ease of life when technology is involved. It's pretty safe to say that most people simply couldn't live without it. But is our love for technology actually a bad thing? While it's OK to use technology in your life, it's really important that you occasionally take a step back. If you're in need of a quick tech detox, take a look at why spring is one of the best times to catch your breath and take a break.
The Weather is Your Friend
Springtime weather is perfect for eliminating a technology addiction. Because it's so warm and inviting outside, it's easy to find other things to do with your time. The weather is absolutely on your side. Find some outdoor activities -- hiking, biking, games, etc. -- and head outside whenever you find yourself staring at a screen out of boredom. Will it take some practice? Yes! But with the warm sun and gentle breeze, it'll be easier to say no to the screen and yes to soaking in the sunshine.
Spring Cleaning Is a Thing
It's not unusual for people to use the spring as an opportunity to spring clean their spaces. They throw out junk, dust all the cobwebs, and make their home as clean and tidy as possible. So why not use that opportunity to spring clean the mind and body as well? If you're already making your home a fresh place, make your mind a fresh place as well. Say no to the screen and yes to things that make your mind feel less stressed and still challenged. Things that make you feel positive and active. The more you spring clean your mind and body, the better you're going to feel overall.
Good Time for a Refresh
Because spring brings gentle rain, the warm sun, and breezes that make you feel great, it's a good time to refresh everything in your life. You'll refresh your home with spring cleaning. You refresh your wardrobe with the changing season. Go ahead and refresh your mind and habits by saying no to so much screen time. Because you're already spending time refreshing everything else, the progression will feel natural. Breaking habits can be hard. Use your surroundings -- the weather, the season, and everything else in your life -- to make the development of new habits easier than ever.
If you're going to cut back on technology and excessive screen time, the spring is a good time to do it. You have so much going for you at this time of year! So much in your favor! Take your time, be intentional, and give technology a break, and you'll be feeling better and healthier than ever in no time at all.
