Get Out and Get Moving When the Weather's Warm

By Rachel Shouse

Warm weather is a great time to get out and about. Get togethers, cookouts, spring cleaning, etc., are all reasons to love summer-like weather and the opportunities the season brings. While most may have activities they enjoy doing during the beautiful weather, others may not. There are so many ways to combine enjoying the summer and exercise. Going swimming, walking and/or running, and riding a bike are all great exercise ideas.

Swim Your Way to Better Physical Health

It's rather well known that swimming makes for a great workout. There's a reason for that. When you swim you use more muscles than any other workout would require. Mainly because you use them all at the same time. A workout could include the use of all of these muscles, but swimming is a great way to work all your muscles out in a more simple way.

While this may simplify your workout, swimming is actually rather difficult to do for an extended period of time, which is good because workouts should push you. Doing laps in a pool or swimming at a lake or beach is great as well. Doctors recommend you get a 30-minute workout most days of the week. You may not want to go swimming each day, but it surely is something you could do one or two times a week.

Making Walking or Running a Habit

If running seems like too much for you to take on right now, give walking every day a try. Exercise benefits more than your physical health. Working out also helps your brains excrete more of the happy hormones you need. A 30-minute brisk walk per day is all you would need to do when getting started.

If you're already a regular at exercising or know you're more than capable, try running. It's important to make sure that your heart rate rises when you workout. While some may have a raised heart rate by walking, others are going to need to speed up. If you don't know which option is best for you try a heart rate wrist band or watch. They're really helpful in monitoring your heart rate while you work out.

Bike Rides and Why You'll Love It

The best thing about bikes rides is how far you can go in a short time. A lot of people nowadays choose to ride their bikes to work or the store. This not only helps them get more exercise, but can also save them some gas money. Bikes are rather versatile as well. Depending on your preference, you could go for rides down your street. Others may like to ride off the beaten path and explore and maybe challenge themselves.

Regardless of the way you exercise in summer, make sure you're having fun. Try to plan different workouts throughout the week in order to avoid getting bored. Even for those who like to go to the gym can add one or more of these ideas to their workout routine.
