She is still alive, having survived cancer five times. Watching her advocate for what mattered most, her health, led Tahir to teach other women how to do the very same thing. Her mission now is to educate about natural pain remedies as an alternative to opioids, to curtail the opioid epidemic.

When she is not in her office treating patients, she can be found with her husband and little girl Viyana Laila Ahmad. Dr. Richard Flusty joined The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2023 when he began serving residents in the Detroit area, where he relishes the opportunity to do the work he finds so rewarding.

“One of the best things about working in the chiropractic field is that I help patients deal with health needs naturally, without drugs or surgery,” he says. “I enjoy meeting a diverse group of patients.”

Dr. Rick, as his patients call him, spent nearly his entire life in Michigan. He previously worked in Warren, Farmington Hills, Livonia, Taylor, Grand Blanc, and Bad Axe.

His wife’s name is Wendy and she is a graduate of Boston University. “She is a wonderful mother to our two adult children and grandmother to our grandchildren.”

Dr. Rick has a mocha schnoodle – a schnauzer and poodle mix. He enjoys being a homeowner and working around the house and yard. He also likes to watch college basketball and listen to music, and he has a passion for watches.

After earning an Associate of Applied Science degree in health optics, Dr. Rick graduated from Ferris State University with a Bachelor of Science in marketing. He earned a Doctorate at Life Chiropractic College, now Life University, in Marietta, Ga.

“A neighbor of mine became a chiropractor and told me about how chiropractic helps patients without using drugs or surgery,” he says. “I've seen people, including family members, suffer from various ailments that could have been helped with chiropractic. I felt that this was a career that would be perfect for me.”

Having worked in the field throughout Michigan, Dr. Rick sees how universal the benefits are. “I found that no matter what occupation a person has and which physical ailments they’re suffering from, chiropractic is a solution to be explored,” he says. “I admire The Joint's formula that makes chiropractic affordable and accessible to everyone.”

Some of Dr. Rick’s greatest experiences occurred while traveling. “The coolest was viewing – from afar – the Etna volcano in Italy, and second was taking a helicopter ride over the Alaskan ice glaciers.”

Dr. Rick’s favorite reading material includes Watches: A Guide by Hodinkee. “As a true watch enthusiast, it’s a book I love to read over and over.”

If he wrote his autobiography, he would entitle it The Life and Times of Trusty Flusty. “Trusty Flusty is a nickname I have had my entire life and I often refer to it when people ask me to repeat my unusual last name.”

When he considers a helpful piece of advice he’s received, Dr. Rick remembers his grandfather. “Whenever things tended to get too serious, my Grandpa Flusty always reminded me to keep things simple and make sure you have some fun.”

His advice for others is similar: “Life is too short, so find the good in every situation.”

If he wrote his autobiography, he would entitle it The Life and Times of Trusty Flusty. “Trusty Flusty is a nickname I have had my entire life and I often refer to it when people ask me to repeat my unusual last name.”

    I'm writing this after only my second visit and the changes in my everyday life have been significantly improved. I came to Dr. Rubina with spotted pain knots in my back, shoulder, and trap hoping to get some relief in lifting weights and everyday mobility. After the first session my every day pain has almost completely subsided. I also had thoracic outlet syndrome nearly 10 years ago. Since the surgery, my shoulder had developed an imbalance which made my shoulder almost appear limp. That imbalance was fixed first visit. I haven't sat or walked as balanced as I am today since that surgery. There has been a noticeable difference with lifting weights since the first adjustment. I used to compete in bodybuilding over 7 years ago and have recently decided to continue competing. My failure set used to be to just how much pain I could tolerate. Now, my failure set is until my muscle is fatigued. I can actually feel the connection more than I have in years. There are still some spots throughout my back that are causing discomfort, but the plan is to rid those over the next couple of months. Dr. Rubina has developed a plan of attack (and not a plan that is going to take years either). A huge reason I'm coming back is because of the honesty with Dr. Rubina letting me know that this can be fixed in a couple of months.

    I was pretty impressed yesterday. I left feeling better than I had in months. I got home feeling very relaxed ? I had the best night’s sleep in months. I got up and went to work and that is when all hell broke loose. As you may remember, it was my left side and today, now my right side is so tight, I can hardly move.     I went yesterday evening to have my neck and lower back checked out but my neck is what really made me come in. I haven’t been able to sleep at all for the past week since I got slammed on the left side of my neck performing a triangle choke on a training partner during my mma training. I wasn’t able to look all the way down at the floor without having to force my neck causing pain…. my range of motion looking to the left wasn’t good at all since I got slammed on that side. When the chiropractor did what he knows best I slept like a baby, I was almost brought into tears for how relieved I felt. I’m Super happy and grateful to have found these guys.     I recently started seeing Dr Tahir during my second pregnancy due to severe lower back and hip pain. It was becoming debilitating until I was lucky enough to start treatment with her and The Joint. I felt relief immediately after the first session and have been back to 100% by the 3rd session. I plan to continue seeing her throughout my pregnancy and beyond. She is truly knowledgeable and effective in treating pregnant women, which can be difficult to find.     Dr. Rubina Tahir is great! She listened, explained things clearly, and gave care that really fit my needs. I felt better after seeing her. I read a couple of Google reviews saying the visits are fast, but that seems common with many chiropractors. Based on my own visits, I don’t think Dr. Tahir would be unfair or rushed.     I absolutely love this place!!! I was looking for maintenance chiropractic care which lines up perfectly with The Joint. I can walk in anytime that works for my schedule as long as they’re open and never have to make an appointment. I’m usually seen within 5 minutes of walking in and checking in. I recently was traveling to Chicago and the fact that I can visit any Joint in the country is just wonderful I never have to compromise my chiropractic care because of a vacation. The doctors at this office are absolutely all stars. Dr Rick has 40+ years of experience and makes me feel so safe with my neck adjustment.     This is the best place I have found to do my chiro maintenance. Dr. Rubina and Dr. Jay are thoughtful and conscientious about my body, and they discovered my pain points immediately, before I even told them where I was experiencing pain.     When I first started going here it was amazing! Dr Jay was incredible. However he's been gone since the new year and while I have appreciated the care provided by Dr Rubina, she's now off and Dr Tim is working in her place. I saw him twice and this was by far the worst experience I've had since starting here last year. I was in so much pain following his adjustment that I couldn't even roll over by my self. Dr Jay not being here is the worst thing that could have happened at this location. But thank God I found him at another one. I won't be returning to the Ann Arbor location. I'd drive hours for Dr Jay if I had to! He's that AMAZING!!!

    Super unprofessional. They have you in and out only long enough to sell you a bogus 2 month plan with promotions that seem to be always available. Did 4 spine adjustments and a neck adjustment without and diagnosis or X-rays. This place made me feel like I sat through a timeshare meeting more than a place that cared about my health.     I have gone to my doctor for a few years regarding the pain I feel in my shoulder blades, my hip (which often pops out of place) and the small of my back. She always would give me muscle relaxers and pain meds and tell me to relax I'm too stressed. So I have just delt with the pain and discomfort. At one point it was so bad I ended up in the hospital. All they did was more pain meds and muscle relaxers. I went to physical therapy and other chiropractors and always left in more pain than I started. My mom started going here so she brought me to try it out..... Not only did I feel heard about my issues but I was very comfortable during the whole process. Let me tell you the amount of cracking my body does has me feeling AMAZING. Finding out that the pain in my shoulder blade was from my actual rib blew my mind cuz I never knew that could happen. I've only been twice so far and I can say 100% Dr.J has done more for my pain than my Dr has done in the last 10 years. I'm glad I signed up and on the road to feeling better after years of just dealing with it.

    I have a chronic lower back pain, mostly from working with infants. At the beginning of this year (2024), I particularly hurt myself pretty badly and I decided to seek for some help. I found Dr. Rubina at the Joint through a local moms group and I’m so glad I decided to try it out! She was super friendly, knows what she’s doing and is so helpful. I’ve seen Dr. Jay a couple of times and he’s also very nice too. The receptionist there is also very friendly and would call me by my name, which just makes it that much more personable. The walk-in made it easy to fit into my schedule and I never had to wait for more than 5 minutes or so. I would definitely recommend it to anyone!

    Had a 11am appointment. Spent the morning filling out 20 pages of paperwork. To be told he wouldn't work on my back!! Then was referred to clinic for xrays with the assurance that they would help me. Got to the clinic and was turned away even though I said I could pay!! Neither place was any good .     After experiencing pain between my shoulder blade and spine for a few months I finally decided to try chiropractics. The staff were all very friendly and professional which was appreciated! I met with the female doctor who was very nice. When I described my problem she examined my back and said it was due to “student syndrome” which is basically bad posture. I don’t think this is the case, because I have a long history of joint problems and recently was in a motorcycle accident. When she “adjusted” my back it definitely cracked, but not much more than it does when I have my boyfriend do it for me. I didn’t feel any relief in that spot, so she tried a different angle. When I still felt the same pain, she told me that my muscles were sore from my ribs being out of place for a long time, and that by the next day I would feel a lot better. Two days have passed and I have the same pain, neither better nor worse. It felt the same directly after the adjustment as it did before, and it feels the same now. After the adjustment she wrote me up a treatment plan for about two months of future visits, which would be best paid for with a treatment plan that you can subscribe to. This was reinforced at the front desk, where they threw in two free visits on top (but only until the 30th of the month! Limited time!) Honestly, it felt like I was a prospective buyer to something they were selling rather than a patient with a real problem. Overall I experienced no more relief from the whole process than I would from twisting around on a chair or laying flat on the floor. If you already use chiropractic care, this is a very nice establishment with great service. However, if you have a more serious problem, I would recommend just going to a regular doctor, physical therapist, or just buying a foam roller.

I am mostly giving this 5 star review because of the way she handled a situation when I unfortunately needed to cancel my membership. I had a back issue that needed further medical attention and possible surgery, but wasn't able to cancel in-person. At first, I was turned away from cancelling because I needed to come to the store in person, but I couldn't due to my physical condition and location. After emailing her, she immediately understood and canceled my membership without me having to come in person. She was so helpful and understanding. Thank you Dr. Rubina! I recommend her to anyone looking for a professional, understanding chiropractor.

    The best place for an adjustment because no insurance is needed. They do have plans to sign up for. I have been going for 5 years. In and out. As a runner you need adjustments and this place is awesome. Even with insurance adjustments are 160$ with insurance this is a no hassle go in, get adjusted and leave. Kind practitioners Rubina and Kaudrey. Front desk is also kind and can help set you up with a plan or 1 visit. ?

    I only been there twice. The first time is free but the guy nearly breaks my neck. He pulled really hard to try to fix my stiff neck but then he just makes it worst. The second time is a female. I did not purchase any package so I had to pay $45 for this. She asked where I need treatment then she just went ahead and cracked my bones for me. The whole process only took about 30 seconds. And that is the fastest $45 I have ever spent. She didn’t even bother to try to fix my problem and just said that it took a while for it to take effect. I came home with the pain in my neck not being fixed and it persists for a few days until it fixes itself. Next time if you are trying to get a chiro, try to go to a Chinese or Korean chiropractor cause that’s where the whole chiropractic started. I will not even bother going to a non-Asian chiropractor again especially this kind of “clinic” that doesn’t even covered by insurance!

    Absolutely amazing experience here! As an avid skateboarder, snowboarder and mtn biker I get injured often. I was taking a dozen ibuprofen a day in lots of pain from sports injuries and over the course of only a couple weeks they literally fixed everything that was wrong and now I’m living pain-free and drug-free!     Newly opened in 2021, I started with Dr. J and he put me back in shape in 6 months. While chiropractic care may be a continuous requirement for most, weight loss, yoga and Dr. Jasbir's magical adjustments have had me inflammation free for a while and it's reassuring to know I can always go right back if the need arose or if I overdid it at the gym etc to cause any lower back/ neck pain.

    This practice is ah-mazing! I went to a previous chiropractor for years and while it helped, I was ready to change. I found The Joint and decided to give it a try. It was SO worth it because they use both hands on adjustments along with the activator. I also appreciate that I can come in with some specific pain or question and they address it and make it feel so much better. The doctors always explain what exactly is happening in your body which helps me understand how to care for my back in between visits. And honestly every single person there is kind and just so open and welcoming. The flexibility of drop ins are also super convenient. Give it a try; you won’t be sorry!!

    I’ve been seeing Dr. Rubina for about 2 months now. I’ve suffered from back pain for years. Been to PT but have not fully healed as they get you out the door as quick as they can. I chose to seek chiropractic care after I took a fall landing awkwardly on my tailbone area. Dr. Rubina is addressing years of back pain in addition to treating me for the pain of this fall. She is knowledgeable of fibromyalgia (painful-to-the-touch syndrome), how it reacts to muscle manipulation and, ways to treat me without inducing a painful flair up. Dr. Rubina has been instrumental in my recovery from this fall and is leading me down this path to better back health. Yesterday, my lower back finally started to release and allow for some movement between the joints. I almost cried at that small adjustment, the relief was much needed! I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and have hope that there is “better,” pain free days ahead! Thank You Dr. Rubina

    I’m very upset I waited so long to try them out The past week I’ve been progressively more unable to move my neck since simply “missing a step” Granted I’ve got ongoing chronic pains from an accident so I’m generally hurting as I’ve never been able to afford ongoing care needed… until now I’m telling everyone I know about this place!!! Rubina adjusted me today and I burst out laughing in Joy middle way when she got to my neck because instantly I was able to move it again I know the importance of ongoing care and am so grateful for their plans that make weekly appointments more affordable than my copay alone was with other places who also charged my insurance I have no insurance currently and yet am now able to continue my treatment I’ve been putting off for years I can’t sing the praise enough Add to that: it’s super cute inside! Welcoming and the staff look happy and are extremely helpful. Informative without that sales pitch feeling you get at some places to simply meet a mark. Check it out, you won’t regret it!!

    I went in to get adjusted with Dr. Rubina. I had never had an adjustment before and was kinda nervous, the Dr. made me feel comfortable and talked me through each step. I had terrible headache’s for months and for the first time I was able to sleep without one. 5 stars Dr. Rubina is amazing, I highly recommend if you are looking for a chiropractor to come to the Joint.     My husband, Larry and I are traveling the country in retirement. At first we struggled to get regular adjustments on the road. Thankfully, we found The Joint and now we are very happy. We purchased a package of visits for each of us. Now, as we travel from state to state we can get regular adjustments without any of the hassles! No filling out copious forms, and no long wait! We find a location near us, we use a key tag to check in and within a few minutes we are in the back getting our adjustments. Today, Val greeted us and within a few minutes she told us to head back where Dr. Rubina was waiting to take care of us. She reviewed our information on the computer, we told her about any specific areas of concern and she went to work. She is a fantastic chiropractor! She found a spot of concern for Larry and used a technique to take care of it that no one has ever used. She was able to get my mid back adjusted easily where others have had some difficulty. We were so pleased with our visit to The Joint in Ann Arbor today!     I always get excellent quality care at this chiropractic practice! Both Dr. J and Dr. Rubina are thorough, attentive, compassionate, and helpful. Both providers offer a diversity of past experiences to support the holistic care of their patients. I get adjusted here multiple times per week (which is what my body currently needs). It's been a much more affordable option for chiropractic care. And I love that they're even open on Saturdays.

    I have been seeing Dr. J for a month and it has been my first time ever seeing a chiropractor, what a GREAT first impression! Dr. J is ALL the nice words I can possibly think of... and so is the entire team up front! From personality, to the personalized care I have recieved, his passion for chiropractic care, to the energy that he gives off.. it is just unmatched. You will NOT find this combination everywhere. After a month of being a member at The Joint, I have never felt better.. clear mind, less stress, and I feel an impecable difference in my physical health for being 25! Mind, body, and spirit are all connected and he definitly hits on all of those everytime I come in! I wish I could continue seeing him, but will be moving out-of-state.     Anyone needing any immediate pain relief, The Joint Chiropractic in Ann Arbor is the place to come to. I have been having sciatica nerve pain for almost 2 weeks and was skeptical about seeing a chiropractor. I was referred to this establishment by my sister and was knocking down their door this morning. The receptionist, Mitchell ( I think that's his name) offered me a very warm greeting. The new patient paperwork took a little longer to complete due to Mitchell being new, not a problem we all were new at our job at some point. When I got to go back, I was instantly approached by Dr. Jasbir Kocher. We did my consultation, my exam, and my adjustment. I don't think I have enough positive words to express how much of a wonderful experience Dr. Kocher provided me. He listened to everything I had to say and took it and used it during my adjustment. His passion for the chiropractic industry shines thru and that is what is making me follow thru on his professional opinion as to what I should do. I look forward to coming to The Joint as Dr. Kocher helps me figure out what exactly what my body is telling me and needing long term.     The doctor is great. Leach holdings, running the place? Not so much. Corporate also thinks its a good idea to raise prices during the ongoing pandemic. If you like familiar receptionists, you're not in luck; because Leach fired two workers in the past year, one of whom was on the original team. Expect a lot of frustration with inexperienced desk workers if you decide to get hooked onto a monthly subscription, since only one of them was really trained. If it sounds worth the headache, the treatment is worth having I feel. They're cheaper than the competition, for now, but are only continuing to raise prices as more people get interested.

    Highly recommend The Joint in Ann Arbor. Dr. Jasbir is kind, patient and excellent at what he does. I went in with a pinched nerve and with his adjustments, treatment plan and guidance, I'm on a path to recovery within the week. Dr. J took the time to know my case and never rushed through his work. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone somewhere and filled out tons of paperwork no one ever seems to look at prior to speaking with me. Having a very physically demanding job my neck, back and shoulders have been in tremendous pain and I have experienced instant relief including the reduction of swelling in my feet that I have been struggling to figure out the cause. I’m sure that wouldn’t be true for everyone but I’m happy I find the solution.
