3 Exercises for Awesome Flat Abs
Everyone wants a flat stomach. Tight abs and an absence of flab. With the warmer weather on the (slightly distant, but getting closer) horizon, it’s time to work on that stomach for warm weather clothing and swimsuits. The truth is that abs are made in the kitchen, but along with your healthy diet, here are some great ab centered exercises to help you build the stomach of your dreams.
The plank is a tough exercise when done correctly. It not only works your core, but also works every other muscle in your body. To do it correctly, you’ll start on the floor. Use your toes and your forearms to hold yourself up off the ground. Keep your glutes down (you should NOT be in an upside down “V” position), and pull your stomach towards your spine. Now hold for as long as you can. You should also be careful not to let your back sway. You should essentially look like a flat tabletop. Use this exercise to work all of the muscles in your midsection, from the very top to the very bottom.
Leg lifts are one of the best exercises for your lower abs. The lower abs, the ones that make the notorious pooch, are among the hardest to work and get flat. These leg lifts will do wonders for that section. To perform a leg lift, lie flat on your back. Keeping your back flat on the ground and your legs straight, raise them slowly toward the ceiling. When you take them back down again, do so slowly, but never let them touch the ground in between lifts. These will have your abs burning in no time.
Russian twists are generally done with weights. They are great for working the obliques, but also for the core as a whole. To do a Russian twist, sit in a “C” position. This position is with your rear and feet on the floor, knees bent. Hold your weight of choice in both hands on one side of your hips. Then lift the weight across your midsection, twisting the body and weight to the opposite side of your body. Weighted ab work really gives your core a solid strength and toning workout.
Even though the best way to get nice abs is by watching your diet closely, these exercises can give you a push in the right direction. Add these to your workout routine to get the stomach you need and want to slip into your swimsuit in the warm months ahead.
