The Paleo Craze: What's the Big Deal?
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last few years, you have probably at least heard of the paleo diet. For a while, it was all the rage. While it’s not quite as popular as it used to be, it’s still a pretty big deal in some fitness circles. So, what’s the big deal with this diet? Is it really worth all of the fuss? Here is some interesting info regarding the infamous paleo diet so you can decide for yourself whether it’s right for you.
What Is the Paleo Diet?
The basic idea is to eat like a caveman. I know that’s a pretty primary way of explaining it, but it’s the most complete and basic way to sum it up. Those that adhere to this diet believe that processed foods are among the worst for us. This means that they eat things like fruits and veggies, meat, nuts and berries, and seafood. They avoid dairy, grains, alcohol, and processed foods. At first, the diet seems really strict, but with some knowledge and preparation, followers swear by its ease and effectiveness.
Does It Work?
Actually, yes. This diet works for most people. For starters, by eliminating processed foods, you are eliminating a lot of sodium, preservatives, and other poor quality additives. Secondly, this diet promotes a balanced one. If you eat protein and vegetables on a regular basis and avoid sugars and processed foods, you are bound to lose weight. In fact, most people on this diet are extremely lean, as this diet also helps to remove toxins and waste, as reported by followers.
What is the Drawback?
If you’re a follower, then you are likely to say this diet is really easy to follow. If you’re not already a follower, however, this diet is pretty tough to get started on. Do you know how much processed food we eat? A lot! It’s tough to go out to eat on this diet and find enjoyable and healthy food. It’s also tough to find organic foods to cook with. It takes a lot of preparation, and many have reported that the initial phases can be expensive as you stumble through finding new sources of nutrition.
Should I Do It?
That is a pretty personal question. Your diet, as recommended by most health care professionals, should be well balanced. The manner in which you do that is totally up to you. If you want to give this diet a try, it’s definitely important to get the ok from your doctor.
The Paleo Diet is nothing new, but its popularity in recent years certainly took a rise. To stay healthy, eat a well balanced diet and exercise regularly. The rest is up to you. Just always remember to do your research and be prepared when starting a new fitness journey.
