3 Tips to Relieve Stress

By Virginia Laird

Stress is something that everyone is vulnerable to, as there are a vast number of contributing factors to the development of such. For some, stress is found at school or work. Still, others may find themselves in stressful situations while serving in the community or even at home. With stress lurking around every corner, it is necessary that you take steps to eliminate it (or at least manage it) often. Health and wellness experts say that stress that is completely overwhelming can hamper your physical and mental health. A few tips these experts have suggested you try to help keep your stress low include:

  • Make time to exercise
  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Enjoy a hobby

Make Time to Exercise

Finding time to exercise each day can help prevent stress from taking over your mind and body. Experts admit that spending time at the gym can get your mind off of your woes, allowing the clutter of the day to disappear, if only for a moment. Time spent exercising can also help release tension in the body that builds with stress. It is suggested that you spend at least 30 minutes exercising each day to help manage your stress. This can be time in the gym or walking (or jogging) on your favorite outdoor path.

Get Plenty of Sleep

There is research to suggest that a lack of sleep can reduce your ability to think clearly and prevent stress. Experts say that sleep is necessary when trying to keep stress from taking over your body. When stress consumes the body, it can increase your chances of developing heart issues, and much more. It is recommended that you get at least six hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. This can require you to give yourself a bedtime. While it may not sound like much fun, sticking to your bedtime can be the best way to ensure you get the sleep you need to help lower your stress.

Enjoy a Hobby

Another tip experts insist you try to help prevent stress is to spend time on a hobby. Finding time for something you enjoy can help keep your stress low. As you get lost in something you love, your mind can free itself from the troubles of the day. If you do not already have a hobby you love, now is the time to try something new.

Don't let stress destroy your health, begin now taking care of yourself so that you can enjoy all that life brings your way.
