Staying Home May Still Bring Back Pain

By Tom Herrin

Many of us probably think about things such as auto accidents or work-related incidents whenever they hear about back pain.  They are certainly major causes of many back injuries.  The fact is, we may even have significant back injuries from doing things right in the safety of our homes.  Things as small as moving furniture so that we can do general cleaning can end up doing more harm than we may have ever realized.  Once it happens, it is not so easy to forget.  If doing a little housekeeping ends up causing you to have back pain, a visit to a chiropractor may help to give you a fresh outlook.

The Back and the Sofa

Anytime you find it necessary to move furniture, it may be you against it.  Moving something as simple as a sofa, may not be just that.  Even slightly lifting or pushing something large, can cause the muscles that support the spine to be strained.  When this happens, a joint dysfunction may occur in which pressure is placed on a nerve causing pain.  It may seem sight, at first, then it can seem to grow more intense and nagging as time goes by.  What you thought was a minor strain may turn into a major pain.

Chiropractors Can Help

When you go to a chiropractor with back pain, you can expect to be given an adjustment in which the spine is gently manipulated so that the injured joint is restored to its optimal position.  This can take the pressure off of the nerve and relieve the pain.  It can be a great feeling.  It is all done naturally, so no pain medication is used.  There is no risk of addiction or side effects.  Healing may take place faster, and a return to regular activities may occur sooner.  At times, the chiropractor may suggest some exercises that can help to strengthen the muscles that support the injured joint.
