Small Habits to Improve Your Quality of Life
By Donna Stark
When you think about improving the quality of your life with things, what comes to mind? Do you think of things like a nice home, fun toys, and a successful career? Well, don't get me wrong because those things are important, but you can also improve the quality of your life with smaller things.Things that you may take for granted or don't even think about. Things that may not seem very important at all but that have the power to influence your days.
Daily Habits to Improve Your Quality of Life
It's not always about the big things that bring us happiness and joy. In fact, there are so many daily habits you can establish that have the power to impact the quality of your life on an even deeper level than say that mansion you have your eye on. Take a look at a few of them here.
- Establish a routine for sleep - Sleep deprivation can wreak havoc on your life, especially your health, so protect those precious hours of rest every night as much as you can! Go to bed and wake up at the same time, keep your room dark and cool, turn off all electronic devices, and drown out disruptive sounds with a white-noise machine.
- Exercise daily - In addition to helping you maintain a certain fitness level, 30 minutes of daily exercise can also help you lose weight, reduce the risk of chronic disease, increase bone density, improve cognitive function, and decrease levels of stress and anxiety.
- Keep up with your health and appointments - Whether you feel completely fine or not, it's important to stay on top of your doctor visits. Make sure you are scheduling those yearly appointments and if you notice that something seems a little "off," make the call! Don't fall into the trap of pushing your health to the side simply because you don't want to be bothered with it.
- Keep your loved ones close - Make it a priority to see those you love on a regular basis, not just because it is a nice thing to do, but because it can literally change your life! So arrange some dinner dates, catch up over coffee, or join a class with someone you cherish! It's definitely more uplifting than sitting at home watching your television show.
Improving the quality of your life doesn't require a ton of money or a lavish lifestyle. Sometimes it can be attained simply by having lunch with mom every week. So try a new habit, and then try one more. Filling your life with the smallest of joys can definitely make it so much better!
