Reducing Your Stress With a Home Oasis
By Donna Stark
The irritable sales clerk, the angry drivers on the road, the grumpy boss ... it doesn't take too much effort to come face to face with the world's unpleasantness, does it? Which is exactly why you need your very own oasis to escape to. Having a refuge, a little spot at home to find the comfort and calm your body needs, is important because unpleasantness can lead to stress and -- over time -- stress can lead to significant health issues.
Designing Your Home Oasis
There are plenty of things that can turn a house into a home, but those same things may not be enough to turn a space into the calming oasis you're looking for. So, let's take a peek at some of the ideas below. They may provide just enough inspiration to get you started on an at-home sanctuary.
- Create a reading corner - It's time to indulge with one of your favorite passions. Find a quiet corner in your house, splurge on a fabulous chair or sofa, and make sure there is plenty of light. Add in a sprinkling of comfy pillows, houseplants, and soft blankets too because you could end up being there for a while!
- Redecorate your bedroom - The bedroom should be the most comfortable room in the home and if yours isn't, it's time to redecorate. Take out the work desk and find a better place for those piles of laundry. Your bedroom shouldn't remind you of all the work you still need to get to. It should be the place you go to escape that work! So invest in a killer mattress, decorate with warm, muted tones, and get those lavender candles lit. It's time to relax and refresh your body!
- Head outdoors - Who said your private oasis has to be indoors? Take it outside and reap all the benefits that Mother Nature has to offer! Turning your backyard into a space that you'll never want to leave is easier than you think. Get the perfect outdoor furniture, add your favorite plants and flowers, and set up a small water feature. The sounds, smells, and fresh air will do wonders for both your physical and mental health.
Rest, Relax, and Lose the Stress
Creating a special spot at home where you can rest, reflect, and rejuvenate is critical to your overall well-being! And it doesn't have to be difficult to achieve. Just tune in to what your body needs and find a spot in your home that you can easily transform. Fill that space with the little things that keep you going because oftentimes, it's those things that can make a huge difference in how you feel.
