6 Plants That Help Your Health

By Brandi Goodman

Plants do more than look nice in the home or yard. They can actually help your health in a number of ways. Certain plants are ideal to have inside the house because they can work to keep the air clean while simultaneously aiding in improving your wellness.

English Ivy

An English ivy can absorb the mold and moisture in the air. It will greatly improve the air quality and keep your lungs healthier. It's best placed in a window sill where it can get lots of light.

Peace Lily

A peace lily doesn't need sunlight the way an English ivy does. That is the reason they're sometimes referred to as closet plants. Place them nearly anywhere in your home and you have a plant that can absorb toxins and keep your air clean. Just be aware that lilies do have a scent and release pollen, which can exacerbate problems for those with allergies.

Aloe Vera

More than just useful for purifying the air like the other options, aloe vera can also improve your skin. The antioxidants and vitamins found within the gel inside the leaves will reduce the appearance of your sunburn and ease other sores as well.

Gerbera Daisy

Daisies are a favorite flower for many because of their pretty colors. Add the gerbera daisy to your home for a plant that can improve sleep. They release oxygen at night, which can be great for those with sleep apnea. They also work to remove compounds from the air, including benzene.

Azaleas are another pretty flower that add beauty to the home. You'll need to keep them watered and make sure to mist the leaves regularly because they require a damp environment to thrive. When the plant is thriving, it will work efficiently at cleaning the air.

Red Aglaonema

Because red aglaonema works to purify the air it is ideal for homes that run cold or experience cold climates at any time throughout the air. This is when lips tend to get chapped and skin gets dried out. Keeping this plant in your home can prevent that from happening as badly.

Incorporate one or more of these plants into your living space and experience the benefits. Improving your health should always be on the goal list. With so many plants to choose from that can enhance your well-being, there's no reason not to add at least one to your home.
