Exercise That Doesn't Put Stress on Joints

By Randi Morse

Finding the drive to exercise can be difficult for healthy people. When you are dealing with an illness, or when you have a lot of joint pain, it may feel next to impossible to find an exercise that doesn't cause too much pain. Some people even believe the only way they can discover exercises that aren't too painful is to seek the help of a personal trainer. While personal trainers are amazing at what they do, you don't necessarily need to hire one to discover exercises that you can do when dealing with joint pain. Here are just a few exercises that cause low stress on your joints.

Swimming

I always loved swimming growing up, mainly because I think it was the only time I felt coordinated and graceful. If you deal regularly with joint pain, swimming may be the best exercise option for you. Swimming is considered to be a zero impact workout, but it also is amazing for helping tone and build all of the muscles in your body. One of the great things about swimming is that it can be customized for any workout style. People who are just starting to exercise can keep their feet on the ground in the pool and do simple, yet effective exercises. Those who are more athletic can race back and forth across the pool doing a variety of different styles while swimming, which isolates various muscles. Chiropractors often recommend swimming to the patients they have who suffer from joint pain.

Yoga

If you have never tried yoga you may believe, as my husband did, that it is a "fluff" exercise. By this I mean the type of exercise that looks good but doesn't really create any results. Yoga, however, is an amazing exercise if you are looking to strengthen the muscles in your body while avoiding putting stress on your joints. There are a variety of different styles of yoga, some that are more intense than others. By using yoga to strengthen the muscles you are able to take strain off of your joints.

It may seem as though finding exercises you can comfortably do when dealing with ongoing joint pain is an impossible task. At The Joint Chiropractic, there are chiropractors who can examine you and help create a treatment plan which can include gentle, non-stressful exercises. With open office hours and affordable prices, The Joint Chiropractic is a chiropractic office that caters to everyone.
