Keep Moving with these Exercise Tips
By Sara Butler
The most important step on a fitness journey is the first one. If you’ve taken that step, then kudos to you! But now comes another tough step -- continuing to stay motivated. It’s difficult to stick with an exercise routine and not slide back into old habits. There are some solid strategies you can use to keep on track and stay motivated. Try them out and let them help you moving forward.
Keep Your Gear Where You Can See It
You often hear people say that when something is out of sight, then it’s out of mind. Don’t let your exercise routine go out of your mind, so keep your stuff around to remind you. It will be easy to stay motivated when you have the reminder of your health and fitness goals right in front of you. Keep your weights out or your workout bag packed near the door or in your car where you can see it. Lay out your workout clothes each morning so you can throw them on first thing in the morning.
It Takes a Village
When it comes to fitness, you need to find your people. Join a jogging or walking group, find a fitness class to sign up for, or find someone to be your workout partner. If you can work out with others, then you’ll be held accountable for your workouts because they’ll notice if you don’t show up! Plus, making fitness social makes it more enjoyable -- and who doesn’t love that?
Go Ahead, Reward Yourself
Remember that sticker you used to get at the dentist after a checkup and how excited it made you? Well, the same can be said for your health and fitness goals. If you’re trying to reach or maintain a healthy weight, it’s best to stay away from food rewards. So, go get a massage, take a trip, or go out and buy something you’ve been wanting when you reach your goals. That can help keep you motivated.
Try New Things
Routines can get boring, so try to banish monotony by doing something new. Take up hiking or rock climbing, take a Pilates class -- just do something that will add variety to your workout and stop boredom from setting in.
You need to do what you need to do in order to stay motivated and keep working toward your health and fitness goals.
