Top Tips for a Healthier Life

By Sara Butler

People want to live their life to the fullest. One of the ways you can accomplish a good life is to dedicate yourself to the healthful pursuit of it. There are a few easy things you can do to help you live a long a healthy life. Here are some tips from the chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic to help you get started toward a healthier, happier life!

Avoid Soda

Your body needs fluids to be healthy, but if you're getting those fluids through sugary sodas, then you're setting yourself up for potential health issues. In fact, soda consumption has been linked to a higher risk of stroke and heart disease. So, replace your daily soda with water instead. If you need to add a little flavor to make it more palatable, then try adding some fresh cut fruit or herbs to help.

Exercise

You don't have to exercise to exhaustion each day to get the benefits of moving your body. Just 20 minutes of regular exercises, such as walking, each day can have a big impact on your health and wellness. That 20 minutes doesn't even need to be all at once. Try doing it in five- or 10-minute increments to make a difference in your heart health as well as your overall health.

Limit Sweets

Desserts and sweets are indulgences, which means you shouldn't have them at every meal -- or even every day. That's because they're often low in nutritional value but high in calories, which means they can put a wrench in your healthy eating plans to help you achieve and maintain a healthy weight. You should try your best to limit sugar intake to six teaspoons per day, which is only about 100 calories if sugar.

Eat Leafy Greens

To improve your diet, make sure to eat your fair share of leafy green vegetables. Try having greens at every meal in some form to help you stay healthy and to improve the nutrient profiles of the meals you eat.

Sleep

Getting enough sleep is critical to your overall health. If you're not getting the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep per night, then it's time to take a look at why. Are you having too much caffeine during the day? Are you relaxing before bed? Are you staying up too late watching television or playing on your smartphone? Access why you may be having trouble getting enough sleep and do what you can to fix it.
