The Dirtiest Places in Your Office
By Sara Butler
Most people spend a lot of time sitting at a desk working for 40 hours per week. But not many people spend the time cleaning their office space that they do the spaces in their home. As a result, your office can be harboring some really nasty germs that can get you sick. You may not be able to deep clean your office often, but you can target some of the dirtiest places in your office to help keep you healthy.
Your Phone
If you have an office phone, can you remember the last time it was cleaned? Phones of any type are a breeding ground for germs. In fact, some studies have found that the average phone has more germs than a toilet seat in a public restroom!
You can easily keep antibacterial wipes in your desk and wipe your phone down each day. This is especially important if you share your office phone with another person.
Your Keyboard
Your keyboard is probably one of the most touched items in your office. Because it's touched so much, it's important to clean it daily and keep the germs from building up. Make sure to turn it upside down to shake out any crumbs that may be present, then clean around the keys with a cotton swab that's been dipped in alcohol. You can also wipe it down with wipes each day to do a little anti-germ maintenance.
The Light Switch
Light switches are another frequently touched surface that can collect a lot of germs but are also overlooked when cleaning does occur. Make sure to regularly wipe down the light switches in your office to keep them clean and germ-free.
Your Desk Surface
If you aren't the most organized person in your office, then it might result in more than a messy desk. People with desks that collect mess are at a higher risk of exposing themselves to germs and that can make them ill. That's because a messy desk doesn't allow the custodian who cleans your office to wipe down its surface and lets germs fester. To help prevent this, keep your desk tidy and wipe it down yourself every once in a while!
Don't let your office make you sick. Clean the places that attract the most germs on a regular basis to help you be as healthy as you can be.
