The Habits You Have to Stop Doing Right Away

By Genevieve Cunningham

Everyone's life is made up of a series of habits. The way we wake up, the way we eat, the way we work. All of these behaviors are learned. We repeat them in the same manner for years at a time, and once habits are developed, they're incredibly difficult to change. Sometimes our habits make us better. Good morning habits and solid exercise habits push us toward better health. But other times, our habits push us in the wrong direction. If you would like to live the healthiest life possible, take a look at these habits you really need to stop right now if you want good health moving forward.

Smoking in Any Form

By this point in time, no one should be smoking. We have far too much information at our disposal to make justifying this habit OK. It's not OK! Smoking is bad for your teeth, your skin, your lungs, and your longevity. And while replacing cigarettes with vaping might seem like a good idea, it's quickly coming to light that vaping isn't such a great idea either. If you're a smoker, it's time to put it down for good.

Midnight Snacking

Who doesn't love to grab a bag of chips or a bit of candy to devour along with the late night Netflix binge? It's so satisfying! But it's also really bad for our overall health. Late night snacking leads to weight gain, poor sleep, and a slower metabolism. Try to set a time limit on the eating -- maybe just after dinner -- and don't eat anything else until morning.

All Day Tech Marathons

Technology is one of the best inventions of our modern day. It makes life easier. It's easier to save and find information. It's convenient. But it also carries the potential for a decline in health. When we use technology all day we strain our eyes and reduce the amount of activity that we're getting. We create irritability. We might create insomnia. If you're an all day tech user, it's time to set limits. Make sure that you're trading some of your tech time for movement and activity, and you'll likely see your health improve life never before.

We all have habits that we're not necessarily proud of. We do things that we know aren't the absolute best for our health. And sometimes, that's OK. But if we can make improvements, we should try. Quit these pesky little habits in your life, and you may create a healthier body to enjoy for years to come.
