How to Reap the Benefits of a Chocolate Habit

A chocolate habit is easy to develop over the holidays, with chocolate Santa Clauses, boxes of chocolate, and other chocolate creations given as gifts and available in many store aisles. While the high amount of calories often found in certain sweets is less than ideal, there are actually some benefits of a chocolate habit that people can reap if they’re careful.
Choose Dark Chocolate Options
Milk and white chocolate do not possess all the same benefits as dark chocolate. Choose dark chocolate as the fixation and it will go a long way in helping to make a more advantageous reasoning for overeating the sweet. The flavanols inside dark chocolate can help to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow to the brain and heart, making it ideal to consume regularly.
Find 70 Percent or Higher Cocoa Levels
Even dark chocolate isn’t a healthy option if it doesn’t contain the right amount of cocoa levels. Consumers get the most benefits from a candy that is at least 70 percent cocoa. Find one with this percentage or higher to truly reap the benefits.
Let It Melt in Your Mouth
Chocolate can aid in weight loss if people let it. Rather than eating an entire bar at once, it is best to take just a few squares of the stuff and let it melt in the mouth. Do this approximately 20 minutes before consuming a regular meal, and it will trigger hormones in the brain that let the body know it is full. While people may not want chocolate before every meal, it would work well to eat at least once a day before the largest meal.
Avoid White Chocolate
White chocolate is one of the worst types for the body. It contains high amounts of sugar and milk, making it too much of a fatty, high-calorie food for the benefits to outweigh it. Avoid this type and choose any other to get at least some sort of benefit from consuming it. Dark chocolate is of course the best, but even milk chocolate will do over this type.
Chocolate is a common favorite among many. While the sweets made into a candy bar and similar forms are often high in sugar and calories, there are some benefits to dark chocolate that a person can reap. There are also healthier alternatives that make the treat more worthwhile to the mind and body. Consume dark chocolate and healthier alternatives rather than the milk and white chocolate versions for better overall health.
