Why Black Grapes Make the Best Choice of All

By Brandi Swieter

Red and green grapes are two of the more common choices. They’re often found side by side on grocery store shelves. Just because they are the commonly offered options, however, doesn't make them the most nutritious. Black grapes are actually the best choice when it comes to eating grapes for nutrition.

More Antioxidants

Darker fruits tend to have more antioxidants. This is thanks to the abundance of polyphenols found in the pigmented skin tone. Blackberries, blueberries, and black grapes contain some of the largest amounts. These antioxidants work to fight off cancer and disease within the body, making them crucial to a daily diet.

A Bigger Boost in Immunity

All grapes contain a number of different vitamins and minerals. Black grapes have slightly higher doses, providing plenty of Vitamins A, C, and K to boost the immunity and keep the body as healthy as possible. With extra vitamins in the body, people tend to experience less pain and illness.

Anti-Aging Capabilities

The resveratrol in black grapes provides anti-aging capabilities. The skin is more likely to remain youthful and supple. It helps to prevent the degradation of skin cells so they remain intact and working as intended to keep the skin looking soft and smooth. Dark spots and wrinkles will get reduced. Blood circulation to this area gets improved.  Other grapes do not have a high enough dose to benefit the skin as much as this kind does.

Choosing and Storing the Best Black Grapes

Not just any bag of black grapes will do. Only the best should be chosen because the freshest choices have the most benefits. When searching for the best bag, be sure to give them a good shake. Grapes that fall when shaken have been sitting too long and are on a weak stem. The stems should appear more green in color than brown.

When storing the selection, be sure to keep them in the coldest part of the refrigerator. It is also wise to transfer them from the plastic bag they come in to an airtight container. This will keep them fresh for up to a week. The most benefits remain within the first few days, so it is best to eat up the package quickly. Eat them plain for a snack or add grapes to salads for an added flare and extra flavor.

Anyone looking to add a bag of grapes to their cart should consider choosing the darkest, blackest grapes available. These are the best kind to get with the most beneficial nutrients. Red grapes would be the next best choice, leaving green grapes at the bottom of the list.
