Posture Problems for Working Moms

Life as a mom is a busy one. The problem is that when you focus on getting through the moments each day and making sure your family has what they need, you’re not focused on the little things. How you move, sleep, eat, breath, stand, sit, lift, and bend has a huge impact on your spinal health. Here are a few tips from the chiropractors at The Joint to help even the busiest moms make it through the day healthy and happy.

Greet the Day

When you wake up each day, start with just a few stretches. Take some time to stand up and stretch your arms up over your head, then wrap your arms around your shoulders and give yourself a big hug, twisting slightly to the right and left as you do it. This will help to start your day off right and supports a healthy spine and body by keeping your muscles, tendons, and ligaments flexible and ready to take on the day!

Everyday Routines

Even when in the middle of everyday routines, you can’t forget about your posture. Something as simple as brushing your teeth should be done with good posture to reduce stress and strain placed on your back, shoulders, and neck. Don’t hunch over, stand up straight and proud!

Speaking of everyday things you do that are tough on your back, lifting your child up and down is a big one. When lifting your child, make sure to squat, keeping your back straight. You want to avoid bending at the waist when you lift. And keep your child close to your body as you walk since it helps to take the pressure off your back and distribute the weight more evenly.

At Work

If you work outside of the home, there are a few things you should observe in order to keep your back healthy. First and foremost, make sure you have a good chair that offers adequate support to your back as you sit. The chair should fit you, leaving two inches between the front of your seat and the back of your knees. Also, make sure it has support for your lower back as well as support for your arms as you work to take pressure off your shoulders.
