Is This Pain Normal? How to Know If You Need Help
By Genevieve Cunningham
Have you ever broken a bone? Suffered a headache? Cut your skin on something sharp? More than likely, you're answering yes to at least one of these questions. And if you're answering yes, then you're familiar with the concept of pain. Pain is something that everyone deals with. We all experience a wide array of pain throughout our lives. For the most part, we learn to cope with the discomfort. But in some situations, we really should seek help in order to heal properly and feel our best. But how are we supposed to know when to wait it out and when to get help? If you're not sure whether your pain is normal or needs attention, take a look at these tips to help you find out.
Assess the Severity
The severity of your pain definitely matters. If it's excruciating, you probably need immediate care. If it's mild, you may be able to rest and watch. Take note of how easy or difficult it is to move or complete typical tasks of the day. Pain that prohibits everyday life needs care. Other types of pain might still need care, but it may not require an immediate trip to your local emergency center.
Assess the Frequency
Some pain shows up for only a little while, and then the body heals and the pain disappears. If this happens to you, urgent care may not be required. If the pain is persistent, it's probably a good idea to get care. And even if the pain comes and goes over a period of time, it's probably still a good idea to get checked out. Frequent pain isn't normal, so if it won't go away for good, get checked.
Assess the Situation
Have you been obviously injured? Are you ill? Did the pain show up seemingly out of nowhere? All of these can give you a good idea as to when to get care as well as what kind. An injury needs attention! Illness needs a doctor! Use your common sense and assess your situation to determine if and when care is necessary.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help
If you determine that getting care for your pain is a good idea, one of the best places to go is to the chiropractic clinic. Chiropractors are excellent resources for dealing with pain. They adjust the spine, remove joint restrictions, and minimize pain all around the body. And regular care might even keep it away in the future! If you're suffering, reach out to the local chiropractor, and you may be on the road to wellness in no time at all.
