3 Foods That Keep You Warm and Well
By Genevieve Cunningham
Though a little bit of cooler weather can be fun, no one likes to be constantly cold. The shivering, the bundling, the dry skin. No thanks. But even worse, the cold often brings a season of illness with it. We're cold, we're sick, and we're miserable. But do we have to be? Maybe not! If you're interested in fighting the cold and the illness this upcoming season, take a look at these foods that need to be in your diet starting right now.
Bone Broth
Bone broth might not sound particularly appealing, but it's incredible for the body. If you want to make a bone broth, you can find multiple recipes online. Or if you'd rather, you can buy pre-made bone broth in a container. So why add this to your menu? When you sip on a warm cup of bone broth, you're filling your body with multiple nutrients straight into your gut. And what is housed in the gut? Your immune system! Proponents of bone broth claim benefits such as: a natural expectorant, joint pain relief, healthier skin and nails, and less overall body inflammation. If you want help staying warm and well, bone broth is one of your very best options.
Chicken Soup
If you can't quite stomach the idea of plain bone broth, you can also opt for a simple chicken soup. Chicken soup is similar to bone broth, but perhaps on a slightly less powerful (and slightly tastier) scale. Just keep a little chicken soup in your cabinet and sip all through the winter. Add an extra cup or two when you're feeling down, and enjoy the benefits to your health.
Hot Chocolate With Cacao
Unfortunately hot cocoa isn't the healthiest drink on the planet. In fact, it can be loaded with sugar. But if you're willing to put a little effort into your drinks, you may be able to enjoy a hot chocolate drink with cacao. Cacao is different from cocoa -- it's healthier and more potent. With the right recipe, you can create a tasty drink using cacao, which can bring benefits such as energy, natural detoxification, and even mood lifting. This might take work and experimentation to see what you like, but if you can dial it in, you'll have a deliciously warm and healthy drink to last all winter.
Let food be thy medicine -- and in the winter, let it be your warmth too! If you like the idea of staying warm and well through diet, use these foods starting now. With a few simple additions to your regular menu, you can fight the cold and the colds all season long.
