Take a Fall Hike for Your Health

By Brandi Goodman

A hike is a great form of exercise. Taking one in the fall is even better. You get to experience the true beauty of nature around you as you watch the changing colors of leaves and the crisp, cool breeze carrying them down as they fall. Take a fall hike for your health.

Mental Clarity

A clear mind can be hard to come by if you're feeling stressed and overwhelmed. It's easy to let your thoughts consume. Get some mental clarity by taking a fall hike. The fresh air and beauty around you will do your mind good. You can focus more on the good of all you're seeing and less on the negativity. It's great for your mental well-being.

Cardiovascular Health

Your heart needs a workout. You need to exercise if you hope to strengthen this muscular organ and get it pumping. A hike offers a great way to do that. You'll be working your core as you maintain your balance and make your way up steep hills. This will really get your heart engaged and working overtime. Take regular hikes if you hope to improve your cardiovascular health. Doing so can actually reduce your risk for heart disease.

It isn't wise to hike alone. Anything can happen, and steep hills and secluded areas are just the type of environment where accidents are likely. Bringing along a friend is the safe solution. It also provides an opportunity for socialization. Spending time bonding with a friend in this way can help you in the health department as well. It's great for your mental wellness.

Leg Strength

Your legs can get strengthened as well while you hike. Just be sure you're wearing the right pair of shoes if you don't want the opposite effect. A sturdy pair of hiking boots are necessary if you want to maintain your balance and keep yourself on your feet. Never wear sandals or heels on a hike. You'll be more likely to fall or at the very least experience more leg pain than usual.

A hike in the fall offers an excellent exercise opportunity and a chance for some mental improvement. Don't let the season bring you down. Take a hike any time you can and allow it to benefit your health in numerous ways.
