Holiday Weight Gain Can Be Avoided: Here's How

By Virginia Laird

I love this time of year. Like many others I melt at the smell of pumpkin spice filling my home. I reach for all the holiday treats that are sure to cover the buffet. And, I find myself fighting to keep off unwanted pounds that are sure to become a challenge. While this can be quite a struggle, healthcare experts say there are a few tips to follow that can help you avoid unwanted weight gain. These include:

  • Exercise is helpful
  • Limit your adult beverages
  • Have a plan when attending gatherings

Exercise is Helpful

When it comes to losing weight, making time to exercise is imperative. Working out can be helpful in burning off extra and unwanted calories. While there are many who will choose to make time to hit the gym, it is not necessary that you get your exercise in there. Fitness experts say that a jog or brisk walk through your neighborhood can be enough to get your heart pumping. It is recommended that you find at least 20 to 30 minutes of exercise each day to avoid unwanted weight gain.

Limit Your Adult Beverages

There is nothing like settling in after a long day of work with your favorite adult beverage. However, with parties of plenty steaming straight for you, you are certain to be tempted with more than you fair share of such. Health and wellness experts admit that limiting your consumption of adult beverages is best for your waistline. These beverages are loaded with sugar and carbs which can pack on the pounds more quickly than you would like. Consider finding a way to begin limiting your consumption of these drinks right away.

Have a Plan When Attending Gatherings

As you traipse from party to party this holiday season, you are sure to find a wide variety of sweets and treats, along with delicious appetizers and much more. These are all sure to tempt even those with the strongest willpower. Having a plan for how you will handle such temptation is best. Some will choose to make just one trip to the beautiful buffet, others may prefer to eat prior to heading to the party. Now is the time to begin making a plan and sticking to it so that you may be successful in your battle against the bulge this holiday season.

With your holiday calendar filling quickly with parties and gatherings, now is the time to begin putting to practice these tips to help you avoid the weight gain that may try to make an appearance.
