3 Reasons You Can't Shake a Bad Mood

By Genevieve Cunningham

Everyone has a bad mood from time to time. Maybe you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, have too much stress, or are in over your head at work. All of these are typical reasons to be in a poor mood. But what happens when you just can’t get that bad mood to go away? When it hangs around, seemingly no matter what you do? If this is the case for you, it’s possible that your bad mood has an underlying cause that you just can’t see. If you need some help shaking a bad mood, take a look at these three possible causes and potential solutions.

You Have a Nutritional Deficiency

When you suffer from a nutritional deficiency, your body is likely to suffer in multiple ways. In fact, lacking in certain vitamins and nutrients can absolutely wreak havoc on your health. You may experience exhaustion, depression, aches and pains, and poor moods. If you’ve noticed that your mood won’t bounce back no matter what you do, or that you just seem to swing from mood to mood more often, it might be time to get to the doctor for a check-up and diet breakdown.

You’re Not Getting Enough Exercise

A lack of movement will definitely damper your moods. Are you getting enough? Or are you coming home from work and plopping yourself on the couch? If you’re a bit of a couch potato these days, there’s a good chance that a lack of movement is causing your bad mood. Schedule in some exercise -- whether it’s yoga, walking, jogging, or something else -- and strive to make it a part of your normal routine. Over time, you’ll likely find your bad mood diminish and a much more positive outlook take its place.

You Need More Sleep

Everyone already knows this! A lack of sleep can make you feel grumpy! Check your sleeping habits. Are you getting at least eight hours per night? Are you tossing and turning? Are you waking up time and time again? If your sleeping habits are poor, do whatever it takes to improve your rest and your moods will likely follow suit.

Bad moods happen, and they’re not necessarily the end of the world. But no one wants to be in a bad mood all the time. If your bad mood just won’t quit, check for these problems in your life. If you find them to be present, make some changes. With some minor changes to your lifestyle, you may be able to kick the bad mood to the curb and feel better than ever before.
