4 Ways to Focus After a Vacation
By Genevieve Cunningham
Vacations are so much fun. It's a time to get away from the worries and stresses of everyday life. But coming back from vacation is so hard. Post vacation anxiety is a real thing, and it makes the transition back to reality difficult. It's hard to go back to work and focus on the tasks ahead. So what can we do? If you're leaving for vacation soon, and you'd like to make the transition easier, take a look at these tips to help you focus once you're back home.
Leave Work at Work
If all you do is worry about work during your vacation, you're completely ruining the point of the vacation. While you're away, leave work at work. Relax fully into your downtime. When you get back, you'll be less stressed and more able to focus on getting back into the swing of responsibilities.
Give Yourself a Day
If possible, get back just a little bit early from your vacation. If you have a day to unwind, unpack, and get things in order at home, you'll be more prepared to go back to work and focus on those tasks. While this isn't always possible, it's an easier transition for many, and allows more time to space out your tasks and improve the focus on one thing at a time.
Prepare Ahead of Time
Get organized before you leave. Set up meetings, speak with clients, and get to a good stopping point on any and all projects in the works. This will make you feel less rushed to get back on the clock. And when you feel less rushed and more organized, it's easier to seamlessly transition back to work.
Get Back on Routine
Vacations throw all routines out the window. The sooner you get back on routine, the easier it is to get back on track with everything else. Go to bed on time and wake up on time. Get back on a good eating schedule. This gets your mind moving in the right direction -- toward work -- and helps you bring yourself gently back from vacation mode.
It can be hard to come back from vacation. Besides the fact that we would all rather be on island time, your mind has to transition back and forth, which definitely takes effort! Use these tips to help you focus, and you can enjoy your vacation and get back into real life with fewer worries and more concentration.
