Exercises That Totally Match the Summer Vibe

By Genevieve Cunningham

Summer is a whole vibe all on its own. It's sunshine and trips to the beach. It's late nights and fun times with friends. Nothing quite beats the feeling of that sweet summertime. But there are some things that seem to throw off the relaxed feeling. Work, bedtimes, health routines. When we have to worry about these things, it can make us stress more than we want during the summer months. But these things are -- quite obviously -- extremely important. So is there a balance? There could be! If you need to maintain health and wellness through the summer, take a look at these workouts that keep the summer vibe going even through the sweat and burn.

Swimming

Swimming is a great summer activity. Between the heat and the sun, a dip in the pool is both fun and refreshing. But if you get in the pool and actually swim, it's also an incredible workout. You'll burn calories, burn your muscles, and completely burn your lungs -- but in a good way. It's possible that you'll lose weight or notice more tone in your body. If you're looking for summer fun with a challenging twist, swimming is a no-brainer choice.

Hiking

For those who aren't keen on jumping in a pool, why not find a local hiking trail? It will be hot -- that's for sure -- but it will also be fun and challenging. If you take advantage of early mornings or evenings, you can get in a good hike without suffering the worst of the heat. Just remember to do this activity safely. Only go on trails that are appropriate for your experience level, always take food and water, and tell a friend where you're going. If done in a safe way, hiking can be a great workout with some much needed time in the great outdoors.

Outdoor Yoga

Yoga is incredibly calming and peaceful. And in the summer, it's a great exercise to take outdoors. Find a clear spot and head out early in the mornings. Take your laptop or your phone or whatever you use to follow a routine. And then do a slow routine as the morning and the whole world wakes up. As the summer moves into the cooler mornings of fall, you may find that this one routine saves your sanity and still pushes your body toward better overall health.

Summer is such a feel-good time of year. It's great for hanging out, taking trips, and trying new things. But it's also a time to worry about your health. Use these great workout options to stay fit while maintaining a low-key summer vibe for a little more fun through the rest of the season.
