Let Chiropractic Care Help With the Rigors of Fall

By Paul Rothbart

Fall is a favorite time of year for many people. The weather begins to cool to a more comfortable temperature. The leaves turn all kinds of pretty colors. Autumn holidays are fun and the pleasure of a hot cup of tea or flavored coffee is comforting. Like any other season, there are still precautions attached to the fall. They can be easily overlooked. Here are some things to keep in mind.

Insects

Insect stings and bites occur in the fall just as much as in summer, maybe even more so. When the weather cools and food gets scarce, bees get more aggressive. Lots of little creatures nest and hide under piles of leaves and other natural debris. It's important to be cautious on a hike or even doing yard work. Carry insect repellent and a bee kit if you are allergic.

Allergies

Fall can be every bit as tough as spring for allergy sufferers. When plants start to decay and things are harvested, there is a lot of pollen in the air. I know when the calendar hits September, my allergies immediately start up. Take medication recommended or prescribed by your doctor and stay indoors on the really bad pollen days. It's also a good idea to have a dehumidifier in your home.

Physical Labor

Autumn means falling leaves and raking becomes a weekly chore. Getting all of the leaves into a pile and bagging them up can be strenuous. It can be hard on the back, shoulders, and other joints. Warming up before starting yard work is recommended, as is drinking plenty of water. Just because it's not blazing hot outside doesn't mean you can't get dehydrated.

See a Chiropractor

All of that yard work added to the added morning duties of getting the kids off to school on time can be stressful to your mind as well as your body. Fall is a good time of year for regular chiropractic appointments. A good chiropractor can find subluxations or other problems in the back and joints and adjust them. This can relieve the pain and keep you healthy and driving toward winter. Some chiropractic patients find that regular visits help them sleep better, as well as better manage stress. If you've never been to a chiropractor, fall is a good time to start.

There's a lot to like about the fall. But it's a transitional season that can cause some physical problems and stress. Consider a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. No appointment is needed. You may find that seeing a chiropractor regularly helps you to fully enjoy all that autumn has to offer.
