Finding the Cause of Hip Pain and Treatment Options

By Stephen R. Farris

Are you experiencing pain in your hip? It could be a number of things and sometimes, harder to diagnose. One of the first steps is to consult with your physician or local chiropractor. Talk with them about the pain you're having, about how long you've noticed it and how it's affecting your daily lifestyle routine.

Hip pain can be caused by any number of the following.

Avascular Necrosis

If this is the cause of your hip pain, you may experience some throbbing from that area. The pain can worsen with movement, or from standing up. Avascular necrosis may happen when there's not enough blood flow to the bones, resulting in (over a period of time) possible hip replacement surgery.

Bursitis in the hip area can flare up due to repetitive movement, or overuse. You might experience sharp pain during movement, or standing for too long. If you lie down on the side where the hip pain is located, chances are you won't get any relief. It'll still feel painful.

Fractured Hip

It can happen when you least expect it. A sudden fall or jolting hit to the hip area could possibly cause it to end up fractured. At first you might experience soreness or constant pain, eventually followed by not being able to bear much weight on the leg from the affected side. If this happens, it's best to seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Labral Tear

This type of tear may cause you to feel a dull or sharp pain, and could cause problems with bearing weight on your leg. You may also notice popping, cracking, or a give in the joints. Most physicians suggest rest, anti-inflammatory medication and physical therapy. However, you might want to talk with your local chiropractor to see about alternative treatment options to avoid pills.

Other causes of hip pain could be from femoroacetabular impingement, osteoarthritis, stress fracture, groin strains, or tendonitis, to name a few more.

The best advice is to get it checked out and diagnosed, either from a physician or local chiropractor. Chiropractic treatments offer an all natural way to get back to a normal, healthier and fit lifestyle that you're accustomed to, without the use of medication, which could lead to addiction.
