4 Exciting Things About Going Back to School
By Virginia Laird
While there may be a good many things that seem to add stress when getting ready to head back to school, there are some things that can make a student excited about meeting the new teacher and going back to the classroom. These include:
- Get school supplies early
- Plan a trip
- Buy an outfit for the first day of school
- Make a special place to do homework
Get Your Supplies Early
Buying school supplies was always a thrill for me as a child. Many children experience the same joy of heading to the store and selecting the right color folders, scissors, and other items required by the teacher. Let the student load them up in their backpack. This can be reason for excitement.
Plan a Trip
Take a look at the school calendar, find a long weekend, and begin planning a trip or activity. This can excite the kids. While they may not be excited for the classroom part of school, they may be able to get excited for that long weekend to arrive.
Buy a First Day of School Outfit
Allow your student to buy a first day of school outfit. This can be one sure way to create happiness toward the start of the school year. With a new wardrobe to show off on the first day, students begin to look forward to the opportunity to wear their treasures found while cruising the mall. Shopping with the student can also allow one more outing for you and your student to discuss any anxiety or concerns about the impending year.
Make a Special Place to Do Homework
There is no way around it, homework is not fun. Parents can help make it be slightly pleasant by helping their student find a cozy and special place in the house to complete said work. This should be a place that is quiet. Allow the student to help select the desk, comfy chair, or other items that may fill the space. Make this space only usable while completing homework. This can make homework be something to look forward to.
Hopefully you and your student are able to get excited about the school year together while applying these tips to your family. Good luck and may the year be a fabulous one!
