3 Tips to Staying Healthy During Flu Season
By Virginia Laird
It can be tricky during flu season to remain healthy at all times. Many will get the flu vaccine in an attempt to keep the virus at bay. However, this vaccine is not for everyone. Don’t allow anyone to make you feel pressured to get the vaccine if it is something you are not comfortable with. There is little you can do to prevent getting the virus; however, there are a few things suggested by healthcare professionals that can help decrease the chances of contracting it. Some of these things include:
- Avoid touching your face
- Don’t skip meals
- Bathe before bed
Avoid Touching your Face
Touching your face is one certain way to get germs in your mouth and nose. It is best to avoid touching your face to help prevent illness from taking over your body. If you must touch your face, it is wise to wash your hands before and after doing so. Not only should you avoid touching your face, you should visit with your children about the importance this issue. While it can be difficult to keep your young children from this, the older ones should be able to adhere to your suggestion.
Don’t Skip Meals
The body needs proper nutrition to function. This includes fighting against the various viruses and illnesses spreading this time of year. Among them, flu seems to be one of the worst. Keeping the body healthy can decrease your chances of falling victim to this virus. Do yourself a favor and plan on eating all of your meals. Make sure they are each well balanced and healthy.
Bathe Before Bed
While it can be tempting to fall into bed and have your shower in the morning, it is wise during flu season to take at least a brief shower in the evening. This helps to wash aways the germs you may have come in contact with throughout the day. Sleeping with these germs on the body and in your hair can be one of the surest ways to get ill.
Sometimes creating a new habit can take time. There is no time to delay beginning these habits because flu season is upon us. Good luck in your efforts to prevent the flu from taking over your home. May you all stay happy and healthy this fall!
