Why Dancing in the Rain Is a Thing

By Brandi Goodman

"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain." This popular quote is well-loved for a reason. You shouldn't let the negativity of the world get to you. Nor should you allow a bad day or bad moment to overshadow all the good days and moments you have. Dancing in the rain is a thing because it's good for the soul and wise to see that you can make even the worst times well again if you focus on the positive.

Feeling the Joy

Sure, the rain will get you wet. It might mess up your hair. Perhaps it will be cold and a bit unpleasant. Instead of feeling all these negative things about the weather, learn to feel the joy instead. Dance in the rain and let the water wash over you -- also washing away the worries of the world. Focusing on and feeling the joy in this moment can help you see that there's more to life than unpleasantness and inconvenience.

Let It Roll Off Your Shoulders

Learning to let things roll off your shoulders is an important lesson. You need to be capable of adapting to change and avoid getting so angry and irritable over the smallest inconvenience. Dancing in the rain can help you to see that it's wise to let the negativity roll off your shoulders and just go with the flow.

Don't Retreat When There's a Crisis

Many people want to run away when something bad happens they can't control. Instead of facing it, it's easy to retreat inside yourself and turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms. Even a little rain can be a huge deterrent for some people, making them want to go back inside and stay holed up alone until it subsides. Don't retreat when there's a crisis or something bad goes on. Face it. Embrace it. Make the most of the situation. When there's rain, don't hide inside. Dance in it and find the joy instead. A little rain won't hurt you, and many of the situations that arise you may not like won't either. They'll only make you stronger.

Dancing, singing, kissing in the rain are all common phrases heard -- and for good reason. Being out in the rain feeling joyful instead of slighted can help you to see the good in the world more so than the bad. Living in the moment and learning to enjoy whatever comes your way can be great for your mental well-being and keeping stress to a minimum.
