Is It Hard for You to Fit in the Schedule of Others?
By Tom Herrin
There are times in which just about any of us probably feel that we simply don't fit in. We look around and notice that something about us differs from others in our families or our workplace. If you have felt this, you are not as alone as you may think. I am grateful that each of us has so many individual differences, but it may come with a price. If we seem to be at odds with those around us, we may feel less productive or out of sync. Some of this is likely due to that fact that we really are individuals. If we examine just how our bodies work, we may find that a few things can have a lot of impact on us.
Our Internal Clock May Be a Little Unique
From the time we are born, each of us has an internal clock of some kind. Even babies indicate variations in the times they sleep and the times they are active. Much of this may carry over to us as adults. Some people may jump out of bed early in the morning while others have to drag themselves up. The former may find that they are very productive in those early hours. The latter may not really get going until afternoon or even evening, in some cases. It is recognized that some of this may be changed by creating different habits. In many cases, this may be so established that attempting to make such changes can be counterproductive.
How Is Your Rhythm?
Studies have found that each of us has an individual circadian rhythm. It is the cycle by which our lives are somewhat governed. It is often thought of as a 24-hour rhythm, but for some, it may actually be longer. That may throw a kink in our internal works. It is important for us to acknowledge ours and understand how it works. Without a doubt, trying to make changes that are directly contrary to it may be hazardous to our health.
Make Changes the Right Way
It has been suggested that, if we want to change something, we do it in small increments at a time. This may mean gradually trying to wake up a few minutes earlier at a time. Doing so over a longer period may allow us an opportunity to adjust without completely disrupting our lives. In other words, taking a teaspoon of change is much easier and better than trying to swallow a whole gallon.
