3 Things to Remember About a Healthy Diet

By Genevieve Cunningham

Eating a healthy diet is really important. We’re told this our entire lives, from the time we can think about our own health choices onward. Unfortunately, there is so much information about healthy diets, it can get a bit overwhelming. How are you supposed to begin? What foods should you completely avoid? What happens if you mess up? If you’re interested in eating a healthy and well balanced diet this year, take a look at these three things that you should always remember in order to find long-term success.

It’s Not All or Nothing

Some people think that eating a healthy diet means never ever eating something sweet or fatty again. This is not true! If you completely deprive your body and taste buds of anything good, you’re much more likely to fail. Instead of thinking in this all or nothing approach, allow yourself some indulgences. Knowing that you can eat healthy while still enjoying some of your favorites sets you up on a path to success, and helps you avoid the binge and purge trap that so many get in.

No, You Don’t Have to Eat That

Just because you’re eating healthy, it doesn’t mean that you have to eat foods that you totally despise. Hate broccoli? Don’t eat it. Can’t stand kale? You definitely don’t have to add it. Eating healthy is not about eating the foods you hate; it’s about finding healthy foods that you like and incorporating them into your diet. Don’t force yourself to eat things you don’t like. Keep experimenting with different foods until your healthy diet is full of tasty treats that you actually enjoy.

It’s More Important Than You Think

It’s really important to eat healthy. We go through so much of our lives eating junk, it’s easy to think that it’s just not that big of a deal. But it is. If you want to be healthy, a well balanced diet is key. If you want to avoid illness and burn fat and build muscle, you have to fuel your body properly. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, but don’t downplay the importance either. Know that it’s important, stick with it as much as you can, and the good health is sure to follow.

Eating a healthy diet can be a challenge. But it’s a challenge that you can meet! Keep these things in mind on your quest for healthy eating, and you’ll see an improvement in your overall health before you know it.
