Unexpected Signs of a Hormonal Imbalance
By Genevieve Cunningham
Hormones are a big deal. Though we don’t give them a lot of thought on a daily basis, they actually play a huge role in everyday health. When they’re not balanced, they can wreak absolute havoc on the body. Some of the negative side effects are expected. Mood swings? Hello, hormones. But other side effects are lesser known, making an imbalance much harder to catch. If you’re interested in keeping your hormonal health in check, take a look at these unexpected signs to watch out for.
Hair Loss
Hormones can really do a number on your hair. This is why some pregnant women find their hair is absolutely luscious during pregnancy. But after? That thick hair falls out by the handful. But this can actually happen to anyone who has a hormonal imbalance … even if they’ve never been pregnant. If you’ve been noticing your hair thinning out, it may be a sign to get your hormones checked.
You’re Either Burning Up or Freezing Cold
Temperature fluxuations can signal a swinging of hormones within the body. Do you find yourself freezing one minute only to start sweating an hour later? Does this happen often? If it’s happening to you for no apparent reason, you may suspect a little trouble with your hormones. Take note of how often (and where and when) these temperature swings are happening, and take the information to your doctor for an assessment.
You’re Really, Really Tired
This can be a hard sign to trust. We’re always tired, right? That’s the nature of being an adult! We wake up tired and go to bed tired. But if you’re getting an adequate amount of sleep, and you’re working normal hours, and yet you’re still exhausted, it could be that your hormones are causing the fatigue. A little sleepiness at the end of a long day is normal. But constant and overwhelming fatigue isn’t and should definitely be checked by a professional.
If you suspect a problem with your hormones, don’t hesitate to get care. It's worth it to seek advice. Your hormones are a big deal, and they should definitely get attention. Watch out for these signs in your life. If you notice them, reach out, get tests, ask for care, and feel better than ever before you know it.
