Should You Be Drinking Daily Smoothies?
By Genevieve Cunningham
Dieting can be difficult for a lot of people. There are so many foods that taste so good. Eating sometimes fills our stomachs and other times fills an emotional need. We eat for hunger, for comfort, and for boredom. It's easy to see why getting a handle on a well balanced diet can be so hard. Luckily, there's a lot of advice out there that is supposed to make it easier. One of the most common pieces of advice also happens to be delicious: Drink smoothies. Smoothies are affordable, packed with nutrients, and make you feel full. Win-win, right? But it might not be so black and white. If you're considering adding smoothies to your daily diet, take a look at whether you should be drinking daily smoothies or leaving them behind.
Benefits of Smoothies
No doubt, there are some benefits to smoothies that are worth exploring. Some of the most common include:
Nutrient dense - Because smoothies are often made of vegetables, fruit, and perhaps a protein powder, they're full of healthy nutrients. This can certainly be a good thing and allows you to keep your diet well-balanced.
Easy - The hardest parts about smoothies are gathering the ingredients and cleaning the blender. The rest is really easy, which means healthy eating without the hassle.
Trendy - Some people really like keeping up with trends, and smoothies seem to be consistently trendy.
Disadvantages of Smoothies
While smoothies can be good, there are some disadvantages to keep in mind. A few might include:
Expensive - Smoothies are often made with fresh ingredients, and fresh ingredients can be expensive. If you're on a tight budget, it can be hard to keep your smoothie menu up and running.
Unsatisfying - A lot of people don't really like the fact that smoothies are drinks. There's no crunch. No chewing. For some, this makes it feel as if they're not really eating, which means they'll only crave more in the way of food later.
Trendy - While some people love trendy, others don't. If you like to stay away from anything trendy, opting for a solid menu of well balanced foods may be a better choice.
Should you be drinking smoothies? You can if you want to, but you also don't have to. It's possible to get the same nutrients through meals and snacks. But if smoothies will make it easier for you, go for it! There isn't a right or wrong answer, so do what works for you. Whether you choose smoothies or not, get on top of your diet for better health starting today and lasting long into your personal future.
