June brings the start of summer and for the lucky ones, summer vacations. But did you know that travel can cause a condition called "suitcase spine"? Traveling can cause pain in the back and neck called suitcase spine, which is caused by lifting heavy suitcases and then sitting for long periods of time. Dr. Todd Wegerski of the Joint Chiropractic explains that the lifting followed by prolonged sitting can cause a disc to flatten down onto the nerves and blood vessels.
Another common cause of pain is when people sit with their wallets or cell phones in their back pocket. This will shift the pelvis and can cause pain. Dr. Wegerski recommends removing the wallet from the back pocket before sitting, especially during long travel periods.
The Joint Chiropractic Morrisville is proud to support community events. The Joint Chiropractic Morrisville is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
