Let Chiropractic Help You This Thanksgiving

By Brandi Goodman

Thanksgiving can bring a lot of stress when you're the one in charge of cooking. The feast includes various dishes -- all of which require time to make. Don't let back pain stop you this holiday season. Let chiropractic care and advice help you make the most of it.

Stand on an Anti-Fatigue Mat -- In Shoes!

Anti-fatigue mats make great tools for the kitchen. They provide some cushioning so your feet and aches don't ache after standing on a hard surface for hours getting your cooking accomplished. You still shouldn't be standing in bare feet, though. Wear a pair of sturdy shoes with good traction and ample support. They'll aid you even more in reducing shock to your lower body when you take steps from one area to the next.

Remember Your Posture

Sometimes, the problem is your posture. You wouldn't be dealing with back pain if you weren't hunched over the counter tending to your current task. Whether you're chopping veggies, mixing ingredients, or rolling dough, you should still be standing upright with your back straight. If need be, sit down while you manage these chores so you're less likely to find yourself hunching and hurting.

Ask for Help

One person really shouldn't be responsible for a full Thanksgiving meal for a full household. Ask for help when you need it and ensure at least one other person is handling some of the to-do list. It lessens your time spent in the kitchen and ensures not all of the pressure is on your shoulders.

Watch the Way You're Lifting

Perhaps you have to lift heavy pots and pans from a low or high cupboard. Reaching too far, bending your back, and twisting are all surefire ways to hurt yourself. You need to watch the way you're lifting and grabbing. Bend at the knees and keep the heavy kitchen supplies close to your body as you stand back up. Avoid reaching or stretching to grab something and ask for assistance.

Get Chiropractic

One of the best things you can do for yourself is get chiropractic care. It's a must-have throughout the holiday season when added stress is on your shoulders. Plus, you never know when the smallest subluxation is throwing your body off. Having a joint restriction corrected can make a huge difference in all you do and how you feel.

Back pain doesn't have to be the norm when you're cooking or setting up for a holiday feast. Let chiropractic guidance assist you with your preparations. With some tips in mind, and an adjustment completed, you'll be better able to manage when you're the one in charge of the family meal.
