What Would You Be Willing to Do for Better Health?

By Tom Herrin

All you need to do is ask around to get a feel for just what people might be willing to do, or pay, to have better health.  Many people have major health problems that are completely unavoidable.  A large majority of health and wellness issues can be managed with a few adjustments and some lifestyle changes.  Many of those are easily within their grasp if they will simply take a good look at themselves and others.  Evaluating oneself may be an eye-opening experience.  Comparing yourself to those around you can really broaden the perspective and help develop an effective but simple plan of action.  It doesn’t always require that much.  Simply smiling more can do wonders.

It Can Make People More Productive

Just about everyone has seen the movie with the “seven dwarves.”  They were pretty successful with their idea of whistling while they worked.  When people are able to express joy as they perform tasks, time passes more easily and the tasks often seem simpler.  There is something almost magical about finding enjoyment as people go about some routine activity.  Laughing, or being happy, can make the most mundane things seem to be much lighter and more easily accomplished.

Most People Don’t Mind Looking Younger or More Attractive

A smile can make anyone seem more approachable, trustworthy, and open to others.  Just about everyone enjoys being around people who view them and others as pleasing.  People are naturally attracted to those who smile.  They prefer their company to those who tend to create a look that's more standoffish.  There is very little attractive about someone who never smiles.

Smiling More Can Improve Your Health

While happy and healthy people may smile, the smile may actually be able to make people happy and healthy.  Even faking a smile is considered to help.  Smiling can reduce stress.  It can also release endorphins that can lessen pain.  It can relax the body, allowing the immune system to react to outside influences and illnesses.  With all of these things, it has been said people may live longer.  One study indicates it could add seven years to their lives.  That is pretty significant.  If you really want good results, wouldn’t it be worth smiling more at the people you meet each day?
