A Camping Trip May Be a Real Boost to Health

By Tom Herrin

It doesn't take long to tear down anyone's health.  Simply living everyday life can do a lot toward that end.  As people get busy, and stay that way, it may be hard to step away from all of it.  Work, finances, and all kinds of other things can add up to some pretty serious issues that can take a toll on health.  Most people have thrown some things together and pitched a tent in the backyard as a kid.  It was fun then, but too many times people have forgotten all about this and gotten bogged down in the stresses of life.  Taking a good camping trip can still be fun and do some great things in the way of improving health.

It May Really Be a Breath of Fresh Air

Taking in good quality air is sometimes difficult.  It has been said that people may spend as much as 90 percent of their time indoors where pollutants may be as much as two to five times higher.  Getting outdoors can be a great way of getting fresh air.  Most people think of camping as that chance to take that big fresh breath, but there is much more to it than that.

It May Improve Short-Term Memory

All the confusion of busy lifestyles can often put stress on the brain.  It may become crowded with information.  A University of Michigan study found that people who walked through a natural setting had improvements in their short-term memories of 20 percent as opposed to those who walked through a city setting.  It is pretty good supportive evidence of the impact that nature can have on individuals.  That camping trip may be a great way to start down the road to better health.

It May Improve Relationships

Those who have not really gone on a camping trip are missing out.  Our family has been pretty avid campers, and we have always grown stronger when we have gone.  Putting aside many of the modern conveniences and getting back go basics can be a great way to increase interactions among family members.  You may be surprised at how much more you will communicate with one another when you are all you have.  If you feel as if something may be missing in your life as far as promoting better health, try a little camping trip.  It can be a lot of fun and some real relief from stress.
