The Art of Patience with Healthcare
By Donna Kostiew
Have we become a society that has lost its patience? Ask any parent of a teenager and I bet the answer will be a resounding “yes!” The “I want it all, and I want it now” moments, or at the very least, the demand for instant gratification seems to be occurring more often and increasing at an alarming rate. And no, these attitudes don’t just revolve around teenagers. Shhh … I will let you in on a little secret … it can also be seen in adults too.
These attitudes, or desires, aren’t always a bad thing though. Sure, many of the reasons can be selfish and really not that important at the end of the day, but there are some really good reasons for wanting that immediate gratification. For example, we would rather not wait the 30 minutes at the drugstore for the prescription when we are sick, and when we do get the medicine, we certainly hope for instant results. And why shouldn’t we want that? The problem though, is that the present-day health industry has created this on-demand expectation when it comes to “fixing” us. We want it fixed fast and we expect to have it fixed now!
Being Truly Healthy is not a Quick Fix
The problem with that quick fix is that feeling better is not at all the same as being healthy. Pain relievers work great for making aches and pains go away, but at what cost to your health? A better option would be to choose chiropractic care. Your local chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic will provide you with treatments that are safe and effective, but most importantly, drug and surgery-free.
True Health Takes Time
The quality and health of your body are determined by how well you take care of yourself over the course of your life. Simply put, there is no quick fix to being or becoming healthy. It takes a lot of effort and a daily commitment. Let’s take a look at some of the factors that can contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
- Consuming a healthy diet
- Coping with stress effectively
- Getting adequate sleep
- Exercising regularly
- Removing environmental toxins
- Engaging in proactive/preventative healthcare
