Clean Out Your Lifestyle Like You Do Your Closets

By Donna Stark

Spring was a great time to clean out your closets, garage, workspace, and probably your car too, but did you also remember to spring clean your lifestyle as well? I’m talking about those little habits that just aren’t doing you any favors. Who knows how they really start, but what we do know about them is that they typically destroy all the good that you have been working so hard to achieve. These are the habits that undermine your efforts and pretty much wreck your otherwise healthy lifestyle. It’s time for them to go.

Habits That Destroy the Good

Here are some tips on how to maintain that healthy kick you’ve got going and how to get rid of those habits that certainly aren’t serving you well.

  • Snacking - Do you feel like standing on the winner’s podium for every few pounds that you lose? It would be heartbreaking if someone came by and pushed you off though, wouldn’t it? Well, that’s what those mindless snacks that you pick at throughout the day do … they push you off track. Be intentional about what you are eating and stop grabbing candy out of your coworker’s candy dish, stop finishing the last few bites of your toddler’s dinner, and try to avoid the late-night munchies. If you must snack between meals, choose healthy items to eat!
  • Drinking too little water - We all know we should drink water but still, many of us are not getting near the recommended amounts each day and are living in varying states of dehydration. Water is a key component in keeping our body functioning at an optimal level. By developing a habit to keep a water bottle with you at all times, it will be easier to see how much you are drinking and will help to keep water as your first choice for a beverage.
  • Too little sleep - The importance of sleep and the benefits to your health cannot be stressed enough, and getting too little can be a major deal-breaker when it comes to your productivity, exercise, and diet. And because sleep impacts so many areas of your life, it is vital that you get the recommended amounts and are establishing good sleeping habits for you and your loved ones.
  • Too much time on your phone - It’s hard to think about our lives without having a phone in one of our hands or to picture what it used to be like, but if you take an honest look, you may start to see just how much time is wasted looking at other people’s pictures on social media. Time that could be used toward making healthier lifestyle choices.

Focus on Your Health

You’ve made the commitment and have put in the time and effort, so why would you let anything ruin how far you have come? Stop destroying what you have been working so hard to achieve, stay focused on your health goals, and clean out all of those bad habits.
