Fall Fun for Everyone
By Donna Stark
Just because summer has ended doesn't mean the fun has to end too. There are still plenty of outdoor activities to participate in, and let's be honest, the weather couldn't be any better! So, grab your loved ones and head outside! It's time for some friendly competition under the sun. Take a look at the following suggestions of games and activities that will lure everyone to your backyard and deepen your connections.
There's a good chance you came across a cornhole set at someone's backyard party this summer, and if you didn't, there's an even greater chance you will come across one sometime in your near future. That's because the popularity of cornhole has exploded over the years. This fun game is easy to learn, simple to play, and appropriate for people of all ages. It's the perfect thing to pull out after everyone has finished eating their barbecued chicken and potato salad.
Yes, it may be an Olympic sport, but take heart. Anybody can play this game, no matter their skill level. Although badminton does require some time to set up, it won't take long before everyone can start swinging. You can hit the shuttlecock lightly for the kids or a bit harder for the adults. The intensity of the game is totally up to you.
If you are looking for a more "dignified" game that the crowd can get into, look no further than bocce. Bocce is a game that requires teams to roll larger balls toward a smaller ball, with the goal of getting as close to it as you possibly can. Although there are specific pits filled with gravel to use for this game, it is just as easy to play it in your backyard. But the best part about this game is that you can purchase a glow-in-the-dark set, so the games can continue well into the night.
We know, we know ... this isn't a backyard game, but we simply can't forget to add miniature golf to our list of fun, outdoor activities. With all the windmills, ramps, twists, turns, and obstacles standing in your way, the competition in this game could get pretty intense! But no matter how intense it does get, you can always count on having a great time. And I hear, there is some pretty good ice cream served at the end, too.
Whether you try the suggestions above or come up with your own ideas, you won't be short on fun this season! So, go ahead and send out the invites. There's an amazing time to be had with the people you love the most!
